More About Coach Marteese

I have more than 30+ years in baseball with 18 of those years working in professional baseball as a scout and in the front office. I have years of experience in team management, practice management, game-time decision making, defensive coaching, plus pitching and hitting specialties and training. I have provided individual coaching and training for University, junior college, high school and little league players in outfield play, hitting and pitching. I developed a training class for introduction into hitting for high school, college and prospective professional baseball players. I currently assist a local High School team.

I attended Seton Hall University on a baseball scholarship from 1984 to 1987 were I played for Newark New Jersey Athletic Hall of Famer Coach Mike Sheppard. I led the nation in hitting in 1987 with a .529 batting average, earning co-College Player of the Year honors with Robin Ventura, The Big East Championship and All-American. My college career along with Craig Biggio, Mo Vaughn and John Valentin is chronicled in the book, “The Hit Men and the Kid Who Batted Ninth” by David Siroty. I was drafted in the 6th round by the Oakland Athletics in the 1987 Amateur draft held that year. I played four seasons with the Oakland Athletics before retiring at the beginning of 1991. From 1992 to 1998 I worked as a police officer in Scottsdale, Arizona.
My scouting career began as an area scout with the Toronto Blue Jays from 1999 to 2000. I then spent the next seven years from 2001 to 2007 as the Director of Professional Scouting for the Saint Louis Cardinals, providing oversight for the team’s professional scouting staff, including the teams advance scouting efforts. During my tenure with the Cardinals, the team was the 2004 National League Champions and the 2006 World Series Champions. I have also worked as a scout for the Washington Nationals as their East Coast Cross Checker.

Session is dependent on the Client's Goals. I would expect to put together something based on where the player is and where he wants to go, time available and focus areas.
Some basic training could cover the following:
Pitching:
Stretching and conditioning checks; observation of pitching motion, mechanics, body momentum, pitch finish, pitch grips, trunk and leg power, follow through, ball rotation, stretch, pickoff moves, covering first and home.
- Develop plans to correct weaknesses in each of the above areas.
- Also available to observe game performance, make assessments and provide assessment reports and recommendations.
- Training in pitch sequence development, hitter assessment (strengths and weaknesses).
- Training in the mental aspects of the game. 1st pitch, 3/2, 0/2, 3/0, watching and observing hitters; developing plans for the hitters (1st, 2nd, 3rd AB)
Hitting:
Start with soft toss to assess current hitting approach, stance, swing.
Multiple drills for balance, swing mechanics, power development, vision development, pitch recognition, and pitch selection.
Outfield and Infield Drills available too

Coach Robinson was wonderful with my 10 year old son. He made him feel comfortable right from the start! He changed his stance right away which I was so grateful for due to him not swinging with all of his power. His new stance has him balanced and using all of his body thanks to Coach Robinson!

Coach Marteese went right to work, and it was immediately obvious that he is knowledgeable and experienced, and had an instant rapport with my son (who is a little timid and shy). I was impressed at the reinforcement of proper conditioning and the progressive approach with throwing and batting. Excellent instructor, will definitely be back!

Great first session. Focused on mechanics and getting back into the motions which is exactly what I need.

Ethan loves working with him! He’s relatable, and works him hard but doesn’t overwork him. I saw improvement within the first lesson! Highly recommend him!

After one visit , he knew exactly how to correct his swing.

Coach Marteese is wonderful! He does an amazing job connecting with my 7yr old and teaching him what he needs to know. I highly recommend Coach Marteese for players of any age.

My son's first session with Coach Marteese was great! He took the time to assess my son's abilities and to explain the long term goals. His coaching methods are a great fit for my son. My son is already looking forward to his future sessions.

In my 21 years playing the game of baseball I have met very few people as knowledgeable about the game of baseball as Marteese Robinson. His career at Seton Hall as well as his career as a professional speak to his outstanding ability as a player, but his expertise in baseball operations is not to be overlooked. He understands all the small, yet very important nuances of the game that are important with being a coach and/or manager at the highest level. His ability to assess talent is second to none, as is his ability to help players at any level. He's a student, and a teacher and there are none that I would rather have in my corner. Marteese Robinson was an outstanding player for me at Seton Hall University. What impressed me the most was his tireless work ethic and his thirst for knowledge. He was a true student of the game . He is now teaching the game to others and those that are under his guidance will no doubt reap the rewards Ed Blankmeyer Baseball Coach St John's University
My name is Blake Ebo, this man is one of the greatest coaches I have ever had. Helped me on numerous occasions with my swing. Gave me the confidence that I needed to succeed. Got me ready for the next level when I was drafted. Just a great guy overall, knows what he's doing for sure and very trustable.
