More About Coach Malcolm

While leading multi-million dollar projects in Corporate America and realizing entrepreneurial dreams in the Real Estate market, I gained an interest in developing youth athletes, as a way to give back to the community that I have been a part of my entire life. I started volunteer coaching and training athletes with Next Level Elite basketball club in the summber of 1998 and continuing when my own children became of age with the Marlboro Boys & Girls Club. I've taken my passion for developing youth and getting them better to several travel / elite clubs including Bowie Express, Maryland's Finest, Severn Elite, Metro Celtics, DC Heat and St. Anselm's Abbey School. This extensive exposure has created a public demand for SMAQ Training and ultimately SMAQ Fitness to meet the health needs of not only athletes but the general population and promote a world that... MOVES, FEELS, AND GETS BETTER.

For the past three years, I have been working as an independent professional trainer. I enjoy every minute of it and the freedom of being my own boss. In addition to being National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Traininer, I hold the Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) credentials, also through NASM. I also hold CPR/AED certification valid through 2018. I recently earned the Youth Nutrition Specialist credential from the International Youth Conditioning Association (IYCA). I'm also most proud of my "Double Goal Coach" certification awarded to those that have learned how to coach to win but more importantly use sports to teach "life lessons".

as a youth I looked forward to practices in the evening no matter the sport. I enjoyed the camaraderie of my teammates, I enjoyed competing but even more than that, I loved getting better... The newness that it brought to my God given abilities and the feeling of preparedness it created gave the confidence to a naturally introverted boy to deal with an unknown future.

This passion and drive to get better carried me through my scholastic, collegiate and business careers. With my affinity for basketball, I continued to compete and enjoy the camaraderie of my teammates at Northwestern HS and North Carolina A&T State University.

After an initial assessment the typical SMAQ sessions are as follows:

Warm- up:

Coach Malcolm ran a variety of ball handling and shooting drills to evaluate player strengths and weaknesses. Coach participates directly with the player performing the drills to demonstrate correct technique and to provide feedback to the player as the drills progress. Very beneficial. Looking forward to the next session.

Coach Malcolm T is Great!!! Very aware of the strengths and weaknesses of my daughter. He also knew how to effectively motivate and encourage her! So many of the tools and techniques used during his one-on-one sessions I was surprised that she grasped so quickly. Great coach

Put in place an initial session for my son, out of the gate I can see the results. Will be scheduling more sessions.

My 15 year old son has been playing basketball for about 8 years but lacked confidence he needed to get to the next level. I'm not exaggerating when I say after 1 session I saw a big difference in my son. He definitely believes in his abilities now. Thanks Coach!!

My son Rahkim just started with Coach Malcolm a few sessions ago and already his confidence and game have improved tremendously! Coach Malcolm is great about speaking to my son about what the drills they were doing were for. From his first session I knew he'd be a great coach. My son's initial session was only supposed to be an hour. We were running late and not only did Coach Malcolm work with him the entire hour, he continued to provide one on one help to him for another hour and a half! My son really really enjoys his sessions thusfar and we are looking forward to continuing with Coach Malcolm as long as he'll have us:)

My 11-year-old son really appreciated Coach Malcolm's techniques during his first session and is looking forward to working with Malcolm in the future. He felt challenged during the session and was excited about everything he learned during the drills. All in all, it was very positive experience.

I really enjoyed my workouts with Coach Malcolm. We did two two hour session days apiece, and though they were definitely challenging, the positive encouragement alone made a huge difference in my game. Amazing session! Coach Malcolm utilizes his vast knowledge of fitness and basketball to pinpoint a plan and reachable goal. Coach works through every step with the player, he is active and encouraging the entire session. This is a hands on coach not just standing on the side calling guides, every plank, every lunge coach participated in through the entire session a true model. I can't say enough how excited we were when we left the session. Looking forward to the future impact.

I held off posting a review of Coach Malcolm until all our sessions were complete. From Session 1 through Session 12, Malcolm was punctual, consistent, energetic, and has made a difference to my son's game. I didn't know what to expect from the coaching sessions but seeing the noticeable improvement and confidence in my son's game has made this a tremendously successful and worthwhile effort. Coach Malcolm is great. Having both our boys with him we truly feel that he can get them to the next level. Malcolm was awesome! He was able to assess my son and give him a training class well worth attending. I highly recommend his training classes. My son was engaged from the warm-ups. He did a total body workout with great transitioning from each exercise. I watched him work out a 4-man team prior to our appointment. All basketball players were equally challenged.
