More About Coach Lucy
I have coached collegiate, high school, and youth players as a private trainer and have 10 years of coaching experience. I led team sessions for Mclean Youth Soccer, a nationally ranked club in Virginia. I also coached for the Open Goal Project, a non-profit dedicated to improving access to elite soccer. Through mentorship and coaching (and her hard work!), we successfully secured a Division 1 scholarship for a player who through much of high school only played pickup. I have also coached clinics for the University of Pennsylvania, a Division 1 school in the Ivy League and led sessions for Lil' Kickers DMV, an organization based in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. I have a U.S. Soccer "F" Coaching License.
I played Division 1 soccer player for the University of Pennsylvania, where we won the Ivy League Conference in 2018. While at Penn, I was selected to the Wharton Leadership program, the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Women's Athletic Association (WAA) board, and the Ivy Justice Coalition and graduated summa cum laude. I also captained the Washington Spirit (NWSL) Reserves and played as a practice-player for the full team. I played in the W-League in its inaugural 2022 season for McLean and secured the conference title.
In 2018, I contributed to winning the ECNL National Championship with McLean Youth Soccer. Our team was a multi-year conference champion. I was selected to Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camps and served as captain for Region 1 ODP and Virginia ODP. I was a Varsity starter as a freshman for Woodrow Wilson High School (now Jackson-Reed) and contributed to winning the DC State Championship, the first and only time a DC public school has ever won the tournament. I earned Best XI and Washington Post All-Met Honors while playing for Wilson.
I also ran Varsity Indoor and Outdoor track and qualified for U.S. Track and Field Nationals in three events.
I place a strong emphasis on building a technical base so that a player is always comfortable with the ball at their feet. This helps create confident players who want the ball when the game is on the line. I tailor sessions based on each player's strengths and weaknesses and will often watch the player in a team environment as part of our training plan. In my playing career, the best players were ones who had an "it" factor that they did better than anyone else; this could vary from dominating in the air and winning every 50-50 ball to being able to play a driven ball on the ground and switching the point of attack in 2 touches. I help players find and strengthen their "it" factor.
My sessions also can incorporate speed and agility, knee injury rehabilitation, strength and conditioning exercises, review of game film, advisement on the college recruiting process, and tactical / soccer IQ analysis based on the player's needs.
