More About Coach Leslie
I have experience coaching and training youth basketball players and coaching and training adult women basketball players. I have coached AAU, women's basketball U16 for 3 years and the adult women's basketball team for Joint Base Lewis McChord. I have completed the AAU coaching certifications and am registered with an AAU account. I have trained high school athletes preparing for their AAU and high school basketball seasons. I generally work with intermediate to advanced players, but understand the fundamentals required for a beginner as well.
I played 4 years of college basketball. I played basketball at Lincoln University, Missouri, division II graduating in 2000. I was the starting guard averaging 10 points and 5 assists a game as a senior. Led the team as a captain junior and senior years and graduated with a 3.6 GPA making the all-academic, athletic team for the conference.
First, I like to identify what skill level the athlete is at skill, athletically, and playing. If they have film to review that is helpful. I talk to the athlete and parents about what the goals are, whether it is improving on shooting, ball handling, finishing, endurance, etc. From there we develop a plan. The first session is used as more of an evaluation to validate the plan and from there we modify and work towards the goals. I have had a background and career in leadership and so I do some motivation and some skill work on how to become a good leader on and off the court. I help and encourage athletes to develop habits that make them and everyone else around them better.
