More About Coach Leonard
I have been coaching goalkeepers since 2021 through private 1-on-1 training, Lexington High School, Lexington United Soccer Club, and Pro Project. I currently serve as the goalkeeper coach for the Lexington High School boys soccer program, where I have coached for three seasons. I work with goalkeepers across different ages and ability levels, from developing youth players to competitive high school and college-bound athletes. I also founded KeeperInsights, a goalkeeper education platform where I provide online film analysis and teach goalkeepers how to better understand positioning, technique, decision-making, and the mental side of the position. My coaching combines my experience as a current Division I goalkeeper with years of working directly with developing keepers.
I am a goalkeeper for Boston College Men’s Soccer, competing at the NCAA Division I level in the ACC. During my college career, I have appeared in four matches, recording three clean sheets, two wins, one draw, and a penalty shootout victory against No. 10 Vermont. Before college, I played MLS NEXT with Seacoast United, winning the Northeast Division and reaching the U19 MLS NEXT Cup quarterfinals. I have also gained international playing experience in Sweden with Nosaby IF and competed against European academy teams including Benfica, Braga, and Estoril.
Every session is built around the individual goalkeeper. I begin by identifying the player's strengths, areas for improvement, and goals, then design the session around the technical situations most relevant to their development. Depending on the goalkeeper, we may work on set position and footwork, handling, diving technique, 1v1s, crosses, distribution, positioning, or decision-making. I focus on explaining not only how to perform a technique, but why and when it should be used in a game. I also incorporate concepts from film analysis and professional goalkeepers so players can connect what we train to real match situations. Sessions progress from technical repetition into increasingly game-realistic exercises and finish with clear takeaways the goalkeeper can continue working on independently.
