More About Coach Leif
I have been playing tennis since I was 6 years old. I grew up in California where I played varsity high school tennis and lead my team to back-to-back CIF titles in my junior and senior year. During my high school years I developed a base for teaching tennis with my coach by teaching beginning students and developing my fundamentals for teaching.
I played junior tennis in the Northern California Section and was ranked as high as number 24 in he boy's 18s division. I also achieved a national ranking of 527.
I was a tennis counselor for three summers at Carmel Valley Tennis Camp, ranked as a top tennis camp in the country in the early 2000s. I taught 4 lessons a day to kids aged 11-17 from beginning to advanced. My final summer I was promoted to head tennis counselor where I was in charge of ten other tennis counselors and in charge of quality of tennis.
I was recruited to play at the University of Redlands, a nationally ranked DIII men's tennis team in Southern California and played there for 4 years.
In 2011 I began working as an assistant coach to my long time coach, Coby Roberts, at Copper River Country Club in Fresno, CA. I taught younger kids the basics of the game and assisted in USTA team tennis.
Since arriving in Maryland in 2012 I have begun free lance teaching mainly through use of craigslist. I have a few regulars aged 40-60 and one 7 year old. I have received only positive feedback from them about my teaching style.
High School -
*2-time CIF team champion
*CIF Doubles runner-up
*3-time CMAC conference champion in singles and doubles
*4-year varsity player
Junior Tennis-
*Competed in USTA Norcal Section from age 10 to 18. Reached career high ranking of 24 in boy's 18s and 527 nationally.
College Tennis-
Recruited to play on nationally ranked division III men's team at the University of Redlands where I played all four years.
I like to interview the client the first time we meet to get a better sense of what he or she is looking to get out of the game of tennis. After asking a few open-ended questions I have a variety of plans to choose from to target the area the client wishes to improve.
I am very skilled with handling beginning tennis players. I have very sound mechanics and can articulate them very well in a non abrasive way.
I can rally with any level of player if a client is more advanced and wishes to improve in such areas as strategy, footwork, or consistency.
