More About Coach Lauren

I am an ACE-Certified Personal Trainer and Team USA / USA Triathlon World Championships competitor with specific expertise in coaching triathlon. My passion is providing peak experiences to adult triathletes who want to ENJOY swimming, cycling, running (and transition!) while improving their fitness and performance.

I focus on teaching and reinforcing proper form in swimming and running. I believe that most swimming (shoulder) and running (hip, knee, foot) injuries are preventable through proper form and an appropriate build-up of volume and intensity. These two sports should not hurt or cause you harm! With specific movement training, I can help you stop “pounding the pavement” and greatly reduce your risk of injury.

Proper form also results in more efficient swimming or running. Do you feel exhausted swimming just a length or two of the pool? Do you feel stuck in “low gear” when you run? The secret to going faster with greater ease is better form, not necessarily more effort or more miles.

I am mentored by a veteran coach with 30 years of experience, and I have studied the art and science of form for the past eighteen months. I incorporate all that I learn into becoming the best athlete and trainer I can be. I practice what I preach and focus on building the best possible programs for my clients.

During summer 2019, I completed a coaching internship through the high-end health chain Sport&Health. I worked with clients ranging in age from 20 to 75. Many clients were relative beginners to running and strength work, though several were more advanced. My approach focused on increasing clients’ overall strength, mobility, cardiovascular fitness, and movement efficiency.

I am two-time USA Triathlon National Championships competitor. At National Championships in 2019, I placed within the top 10 amateur women in my age group from around the country. This qualified me for Team USA and USA Triathlon World Championships held in Edmonton, Canada, in 2020. I have three age-group wins out of three starts in the 2019 Kinetic Multisports triathlon series.

I placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th in the women’s overall division in road 5Ks throughout Virginia and North Carolina during 2019.
In previous years, I have completed eight marathons, including the Rome Marathon and the Athens Marathon, as well as four half-marathons.

I was a collegiate cyclist at Brown University during the 2015 and 2016 road seasons. I currently race criteriums with the Maryland-based road cycling team PHASE.

A typical session will emphasize technique work and short intervals, adapted according to each client’s individual goals and abilities.

Technique work for running focuses on arm positioning, arm drive, “falling forward” from the body’s center of gravity, increasing stride rate, and carrying momentum over the ball of the foot.

Technique work for swimming will depend on the specific needs of the client. I teach adult learn-to-swim -- beginning with getting into the water -- all the way up to advanced stroke mechanics.

Each drill I use has a specific teaching purpose, applied to each individual client. I don’t believe in assigning drills for the purpose of “going through the motions.” Instead, I watch each drill carefully, provide correction, and teach each movement pattern with the goal of faster, injury-free swimming or running in mind.

The short intervals are then opportunities to apply the principles of the technique work to intentional, high-quality swimming or running.

Getting me back were I want to be, Lauren is Awesome!!!

Coach Lauren is providing the exact type of guidance our son needs. we look forward to scheduling more sessions once we return to the area in a couple of weeks.

My two girls loved training with Coach Lauren! We had several speed and agility sessions with her and she always prepared something new that made training fun and kept my daughters engaged and motivated. She was also very flexible with scheduling changes due to weather and was very prompt in her communications. We hope to do more sessions in the future!

Has so many helpful drills and tips and is great at explaining new concepts and the “why” of specific parts of form. Very energetic and encouraging. :)

Thanks for being flexible with our timing and location. Really appreciate the full end to end workout with a warmup, drills, and stretches. Looking forward to working together!

Lauren is a delight as a coach! She is enthusiastic, patient, professional, and highly knowledgeable. She communicated well with us, and was very kind to my teenage daughter who is just starting out with running. My daughter was really happy after the session and talked about all the things she learned and is excited to practice on her own. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend Lauren for all levels.

Coach Lauren is a force of nature! She has a science based approach and was willing to teach my daughter how to "fish" and have a long term strategy! Great positive role model for our high school Junior!

Coach Lauren,

Thank you for your time and flexibility this morning. I liked how you spent time assessing my daughter and evaluating her strengths and areas to work on instead of throwing a bunch of agility drills at her. We are looking forward to having you as our agility coach.

Coach Lauren had a huge impact on my 6 and 8 year old girls. They’ve had a lot of fun and shown improvement after each session.

Great first session. Looking forward to my next session.

Coach Lauren is great a great match for our 9 y/o athlete the practice was intensive but she kept him focused and he loved everything even though he got tired. Will definitely keep going with here once figure out our schedule.

She was great and totally hit the mark with our small group of little friends!

Lauren has been a tremendous coach in helping me correct my running form after picking up some bad habits and helped me find and set a consistent pace. I had specific goals I needed to reach and Lauren’s coaching has helped me meet them.I needed to work on heat training as well–running in the heat and higher humidity levels. Lauren helped me ease into tolerating the conditions and maintain my pace in them.

It's been one month since I've met Coach Lauren and in that time I've made improvements in both my overall physical fitness as well as my run time. Working with Lauren is great because of her personality, she's calm, optimistic and respectful of your current status and pushes you to help reach your goals. Another thing that sets Lauren apart from other coaches is her multifaceted experience with runners ranging from younger and less experienced people to runners that have completed multiple 5K's and even our members in the military. I would recommend Coach Lauren to anyone of any age or experience and I myself will continue to work with her.

Lauren has been wonderful helping my daughter train!

Awesome coach, gave me some great tips and drills to work on and explained things in a way that really drove her points home.

Coach Lauren is an amazingly attentive coach! I appreciate that her coaching techniques focus on self-reflection, rather than simple instructions. During my sessions, rather than just tell me what I was doing wrong with my swim technique, she provided commentary that helped me personally identify and understand my mistakes. This has been crucial to my personal development since it has allowed me implement Coach Lauren's teachings during my individual training sessions. Coach Lauren is extremely punctual, communicates well, and is attentive during every session.

Coach Lauren did a great job identifying and coaching me through issues with my running form. I’ll definitely use her again!

I can't say enough good things about Coach Lauren! She helped my high schooler correct his running form, which eliminated nagging pain and made him more efficient (significantly faster). Along with her knowledge and enthusiasm, Coach Lauren brought to each session an attentiveness to and understanding of teen athletes that really resonated with my son. Both his times and his mindset have improved since she began working with him.

Coach Lauren is amazing. My son is a better swimmer, technically, after just one session. We cannot wait for the next session.

Awesome coach. Really attentive and understanding. Coaches in simple but effective ways.

She really studies fine areas to tweak a stroke. Wonderful.

In just one session Lauren helped me correct a critical part of my stroke. She doesn’t just coach from the deck. She jumps in the water with you for the greatest effect.
