More About Coach Lainie

I first started coaching triathletes while working a New York City based triathlon company called JackRabbit Sports. During my time there, I led classes of everywhere from 5-30 triathletes looking to improve their swimming technique and endurance as well as their open water skills. During that time, I also coached beginning running classes for triathletes and runners training for 5k and 10k distances. Since leaving New York, I have continued as an independent coach, working with triathletes on their swim leg. I also continue to coach beginning runners.

I have over 15 years of competitive swimming experience, including 4 years at the NCAA level and 4 years on varsity on one of the top 3 high school swim teams in the country. I graduated as an academic all-american in high school and held numerous pool records in college as well as a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record in the 200 butterfly.

I've been fortunate to have had some of the best training partners and coaches the sport has to offer.

As a lifelong multi-sport athlete (I currently train weightlifting and jiu jitsu), I have a gained a lot of knowledge and experience training posture, balance and body mechanics that I incorporate into my lessons. This is an important aspect of my instruction because it allows for the skills I teach to apply both in and out of training. While body position and technique are central to my training philosophy, I like to cater both individual lessons and long-term programming to the needs of my clients. Because of my wide range of experience, I am able to do this with all levels and ages.

We are very grateful and pleased with Coach Lainie. We will definitely be working with her in the future again.

Coach Lainie has been a pleasure to work with! Bit of background: I'm a 23-year-old nonathlete (didn't play a sport since fifth grade non-travel soccer) just trying to add some muscle mass and get stronger. Social media and the occasional program got me to some okay (some would say bad) numbers, but I was stuck in a plateau, spinning my wheels for three years. After a few months, I can confidently say that working with Coach Lainie has been the best decision of my lifting career. She helped me to break my plateau and improve my squat, deadlift, pull-ups, and bench press, even as I lost weight from failed "dirty bulks." I actually look forward to going to the gym again! She's also easy to talk to- I've never felt judged for my lack of athletic background, low lifts, or appearance. I highly recommend her as a coach to anyone like me.

My son and a teammate started with Coach Lainie about 2 weeks ago. Both are 14 and good competitive swimmers who swim for their schools and a well-organized year-round club. However, a piece of their training has been lacking a bit, that being personal attention to strong swim technique including turns, body position and other nuances that collectively have a big impact on swim times. After two sessions with Lainie, my son has already walked away with several key insights to work on and he definitely enjoyed the sessions. Additionally, Lainie has an expertise and interest in nutrition as well, so she spent part of the last session talking with them about that. We're just getting started, but we're confident that this will be a good weekly investment as my son prepares for the Age Group state meet in late February. Lainie is also very responsive in communications and personable with both the boys and we parents.

Coach Lainie was great with my son. She evaluated his strokes and movements. After coach, Lainie saw how he swam, she talked to my son about some corrections. I could tell my son enjoyed his lesson and she had great communication with him. I can not wait to see his improvements.

Thanks!

My daughter learned a lot

Though I have been swimming for exercise and to eventually compete in a full triathlon, this was the first opportunity I have had to work with a coach. It is obvious Lainie knows a thing or two (thousand) about swimming based on her years of experience as a competitive swimmer and her past coaching experience. After only one hour and applying the recommendations she had, I believe I reduced my "drag" in the water and improved my stroke. I am looking forward to the next few sessions and learning how to pull it all together.

We have been working with Coach Lainie for about 6 weeks. During this time my daughter who is 11 and 9 y/o son have better form and better endurance by doing her workouts weekly and talking to her. Both of them have dropped 10s off their free style at competition so far and at least 4s on their back stroke. We are very happy working with her.

We've been working with Lainie for several weeks now as my daughter's online coach. We were skeptical at first that an online swim coach would work, but we have been amazed by Coach Lainie!! Her workouts are customized to my daughter's needs and she breaks down each stroke into simple tasks. My daughter loves the workouts and has commented several times about how she feels her stroke has improved. Lainie is patient and helpful in our weekly chats and clearly discusses the workouts and any changes/corrections that my daughter needs to make.

Coach Lainie is working with my CrossFit teen daughter focusing on the fundamentals of swimming first. She breaks down every movement and explains how it will improve her performance. Incredibly patient and knowledgeable. She is taking my daughter from a non swimmer to prepping her for the swim for a CrossFit competition!

Awesome 1st training session with Coach Lainie. Her mastery of the sport was clear in just my first hour working with her. I’ve seen improvements in the pool already. She conveyed her approach to me and encouraged proper balance and efficiency in the water, both key, to achieving my goals of becoming an endurance swimmer and triathlete.

I reached out to Coach Lainie about a week ago in search for an online swim coach. She responded quickly and set up a video conference. She has already reviewed underwater footage of my swimming and sent me the first week's training plan. Excellent experience so far. I highly recommend Coach Lainie!

Coach Lainie has been great in helping my daughter tweak her strokes. My daughter's shoulder has been bothering her for awhile and with Coach Lainie's help we are discovering what she is doing wrong and how to adapt to prevent further damages.

Coach Lainie was fantastic! She was very patient with me and I look forward to continuing to work on my swimming.

Coach Lanie is the most professional swim coach we have worked with. We sought her out to work on stroke technique for all competitive swim styles and were blown away by her calm, patient and knowledgeable coaching. She is very technically focused and determined to get results. If your a dedicated athlete of any age she's the coach that will get you technically advanced.

Lainie was patient with my young kids. She gave some great tips and as soon as they are more comfortable putting their faces in the water, we will schedule more lessons. I’m hopeful they will learn to swim this summer.

I had a splendid experience with Coach Lainie. I feel like my first lesson solidified all the fundamentals that I never knew, and I already feel more comfortable and confident in the water. She was attentive, observant, and perfectly tailored the lesson to my existing abilities, and communicated a lot of information effectively, and at a pace that suited me. I would highly recommend.

Awesome job! She gave me some great tips that really helped!

Lainie was great to work with, look forward to future sessions!

My daughter really appreciated working with Couch Lainie to help her improve her swim techniques.

Lainie is very professional and has done an incredible job coaching our 11 year old daughter. Our daughter went from wanting to quit her swim club to now having confidence and enthusiasm in the water. Lainie has helped my daughter improve her strokes and feel more confident in the pool. She is also very responsive in addressing any questions we've had. My daughter looks forward to her weekly sessions and really enjoys them. I highly recommend Lainie!

Coach Lainie is terrific! I have great confidence in her knowledge and experience. On my first session I greatly benefitted from her full-spectrum approach, coaching me on everything from proper breathing and posture to good form and balance to out-of-pool training. She also followed up with reminders of what we had covered and links to resources. As one just starting out developing my athletic swimming capabilities I'm excited to have her thorough coaching to keep me on the right track (or, in the right lane).

Coach Lainie really helped my swimmer by breaking down each aspect of her stroke and going through them in a very detailed manner. She focuses on everything from breathing to stroke technique! Would recommend to any swimmer.

Lainie was very quick in responding to all my messages. Her swimming instructions were very clear and helpful, I definitely learned a lot from just the first session. She was also patient and pleasant to work with. I would recommend Lainie to anyone from any age and experience level.

Two lessons in and I am already faster and feel a lot more efficient. Lainie is a very straight forward, no-nonsense teacher. Her explanations are always clear and her instructions are easy to follow. Plus she's personable and fun to work with. It's been a great experience !

I took a series of lessons to learn to swim for my half Ironman triathlon. I came in not knowing any swimming technique beyond treading water. I feel like every lesson got me closer to my goal. The swim in my half Ironman went great - I had the confidence I needed. I also have a great new way to exercise that I will use the rest of my life. Best investment I’ve ever made, and fun too!
