More About Coach Khadija

I have been coaching at the collegiate level now for three years. I am currently the full-time assistant for the women's basketball team at Manhattanville College. My hands on experience working in the coaching industry allowed me to work on fundamentals skills with both guards and forwards. I am currently in charge of running my own individual workouts with my student-athletes.

I have worked at and still currently work at basketball clinics with middle school girls, teenagers and the obvious college athletes. I have been working clinics since high school. I recently had a great experience working at The Brook Lopez ( Brooklyn Nets player) Basketball Camp and it was great working with the young boys and girls and currently still work with young athletes for Dyckman Youth Enterprise.

I had the opportunity to play at both Division 2 and 3 levels of college basketball and won a conference championship at both, with NCAA and NJCAA national appearances. My head coach at Genesee Community College (D2) was awarded the head coaching position at the State University of New York at Geneseo (D3) after my first year at GCC and asked me if I can follow him over and build a competitive basketball culture there with him and I followed.

I have received multiple tournament MVP awards, all-tournament team and all-regional team awards at both Divisions before and after my injury which I will go on to speak about. I was chosen to represent my institution (SUNY Geneseo) at the NCAA Leadership Summit in 2008 which was held at Disney World. These experiences were rewarding and in my first game of my junior season at Geneseo, I went down with a Achilles tendon tear and did not return for the season. I did however, stuck through all the rehab and was able to complete two more seasons at Geneseo and my red shirted senior year was our championship season. My career to play professionally was cut short because of the other injuries that I have gained during the seasons I played, but coaching was the only direction that I feel fit best.

My workouts are catered to each clients challenges and strengths. I start off with all my clients a light jog and stretch. I like to begin my workouts with some form shooting whether it is with a guard or forward. Warm up consist of a lot of lay up drills (i.e. mikan, 2 footed mikan, reverse mikan, block to block lay ups). We would move on the block jumpers then elbow jumpers, elbow pull ups etc. Working on footwork skills (i.e. half-step, full-step attacks to the basket, jab steps, jump stop/step through), and free throws between everything. These workouts tackle fundamentals of basketball along with conditioning. Working on being physical and finishing with contact as we get through the workout is important. I am a believer of not rushing through things, but understanding the details and doing them correctly.

Client Reviews

Coach Khadija is truly terrific. She positively instructs and gives constructive feedback. She is kind but at the same time serious and focused. I highly recommend her and is appropriate for any age level basketball instruction. Absolutely great! Purchase NY

Coach Khadija is an awesome coach! She is knowledgeable, patient, and provides detailed instruction for ball-handling, shooting and footwork. She brings a great amount of playing experience to her training session. My 13 y/o daughter enjoyed the workout.

Khadija “Kiki” Campbell is back for her second season as an assistant coach with the Manhattanville women’s basketball team in 2013-14. In her first season on staff, Campbell helped with the development of Manhattanville's guards including senior Taylor Wilson, who earned Freedom Conference second-team honors at the end of the season. As a team, the Valiants finished the year at 10-14 under the watch of Campbell and head coach Kate Vlahakis. As the top assistant coach for Vlahakis, Campbell is responsible for much of the day-to-day operation of the women’s basketball program, including on- and off-campus recruiting, fundraising and alumni affairs, and game and practice preparation and instruction. Campbell came to Manhattanville after serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater, SUNY Geneseo, for the 2011-12 season. Prior to her stint on the sideline Campbell appeared in 83 games while starting in 76 for the Knights, averaging 8.85 points per game for her NCAA career in three seasons under head coach Scott Hemer. Prior to her time in Geneseo, Campbell played for Hemer while at Genesee Community College of the NJCAA where they won the 2007 Regional Championship en route to qualifying for the national tournament. Individually, Campbell was recognized for her athletic achievements at Geneseo by being honored as a two-time member of the All-SUNYAC Team. Campbell received her bachelor’s degree in communications from SUNY Geneseo in May of 2011. She currently lives in the Bronx, N.Y., while pursuing her master’s degree in sport business management at Manhattanville.
