More About Coach Kevin

During my senior year at a Georgetown I was the Assistant Coach at Georgetown Day Middle School. The season lasted 3 months, with practice 4 days per week and 12 total games. During practice, I worked with the offense on shooting, passing, game plays, man-up and clearing while the head coach worked with the defense on sliding, passing, man-down and clearing. Our head coach was unable to make 2 regular season games and I served as head coach, implementing the offense, calling out cuts/picks, ball-watching, times to move the ball etc. I was asked to come back the next year but I was graduating that May and am from Long Island, so unfortunately I wasn't able to return. For the summers of 2008 - 2014, I worked at a Yacht Club as a Lifeguard (first 4 years) and later a Camp Counselor (final 2 years). While a lifeguard, I watched over a a wider age range of kids, from toddlers (in floaters) to the more proficient swimmers of the upper teens. Camp Counselor was a more focused group of children from ages 6 to 8. Camp consisted of a number of activities, such as tennis, land sports, swimming and sailing, which demanded heightened supervision. Although this past work experience isn't lacrosse related, it highlights my ability to work well with younger kids. The campers constantly sought me ought for entertainment since I was viewed as one of the more outgoing/energetic counselors.

In 2015, I was voted President of Georgetown's Club Lacrosse Team. I was responsible for scheduling games, meetings, equipment orders and practices (as well as running them). In 2014, I served as Treasurer and managed the team budget. I graduated from Manhasset High School in 2011, with our team ranked 15th in the nation upon the culmination of the season. The prior year, we won the Class C New York State Championship and ended the season with a 20-0 record. 2015). Currently, I do not play in a league (I've been focusing on securing a full-time job at Credit Suisse where I currently work), but intend on joining a summer league out of NYC within the next several months.

Sessions will be modified according to both the client's skill level and overall strengths/weaknesses, though they will involve a combination of both stick/foot work and passing/catching/shooting drills. Stickwork will focus on proper technique when throwing/shooting the ball, such as hand placement, footing and body movement (i.e. twisting the hips while shooting on the run and maintaining a straight elbow when following through with passes). Footwork will involve cone/ladder drills from various points on the field (with/without the stick depending upon need). Passing and catching on-the-run while coming around X, cutting down an alley and moving off of a pick on the crease will be performed with both hands, if possible. This is usually fairly difficulty to pick up with younger players since players tend to slow down to catch the ball. Catching the ball and quickly releasing for another feed/shot is another consideration depending upon the need. This would be more valuable for a crease attackmen or a feeder from behind but is a valuable skill that helps sharpen reflexes and hands that can be improved with wall ball 2-3 feet from the wall. Shooting - with accuracy - will be practiced by setting targets in various parts of the net. Players will learn when to take a time-and-room shot compared to an on-the-run (OTR) shot and how to develop an OTR shot that is both accurate and at a high velocity. Most importantly, I will be stressing the importance of continuous practice during the player's free time. Every good coach has told their players that a wall is their best friend and that statement is 100% valid. Sessions help hone in on specific skills/techniques, but fundamentals of the game are not developed overnight. Once again, depending upon the age of the player, I'll stress the importance of proper dieting and conditioning for peak performance on the field.
