More About Coach Kelsey
I've been coaching for seven years. I am a former Division-I dedicated tennis player. I just graduated college in May. I've taught kids of all ages and levels including adults. I worked at my tennis academy, East Cobb Swim and Tennis, during high school. I assisted my coach throughout the week with the elementary school and middle school drill groups. Also, I coached while competing in college after my practices a few times a week, and I coached a few clients this summer at my house in Atlanta, GA.
I am a former Division-I college tennis player. I played for the University of Richmond Spiders. I started every year in singles, and I also had the opportunity to play doubles.
I always mix it up! I love to make my lessons fun, but also challenging. I start by discussing with my client/student what we worked on the previous lesson and also tell them what we will be focusing on in this lesson. Next, I warm up my student by either rallying or feeding balls. I want to sure that my student knows the proper technique, so in the beginning I will spend more time feeding balls. The second half of the lesson, I will rally with them and make sure they can apply what they are learning from the feeding drills. I always mix up the drills to make sure they are able to move in different directions, make contact with the ball, and have the proper footwork. I like to add something new every lesson, so I will introduce a new stroke (either volley, serve, slice) or new footwork skill that we can focus on in the next lesson. Each lesson, I always make sure we focus on the basics, so that my client nails that before moving on to more complex strokes and movements.
