More About Coach Kayla

I have coached AAU for the Minnesota Fury. I have also finished up my position at D2 University of Mary. I was the Graduate Assistant Coach. I was able to run the kids camps, and work 1 v 1 in those camps with kids. I also worked 1 v 1 with my athletes, redshirts, and formatted workouts for their success. I played with my athletes in practices and 1 v 1. I am able to work with any ages. I have worked on ball handling, post moves, shooting form, and finishing. I also work on defensive principles and shot blocking.

I have played basketball since I was in third grade. I played for Wayzata High School, played for a season at The University of Iowa, later transferred to Winona State. At Winona, I finished the all time block shot leader, lead the team in field goal percentage, had an inside outside game. I received All state and All conference in high school. Freshmen of the week in the Big ten honor. As well as ALL NSIC 1st team, ALL NSIC 2nd Team and ALL NSIC Defensive team. I had opportunities to play professional over seas, but injuries stopped me from going over seas.

I start with a warm up and stretch (important for injury prevention).
I then move into a ball handling circuit. Here at UMary I use Go to stands and cones for movement patterns, and two ball ball handling. I have used a ball that was inflated, and not inflated to work on pounding the ball and wrist strength.
After ball handling we move to shot progression. They start with the one arm shots, get loose and we slowly move into farther back shots and game like shots.
Drills I have had are viking shooting, ray allen shooting drill, baseline to elbow, elbow to elbow and baseline to elbow shots, Sky is the limit for shooting drills. I try to give variety.
Then we move into positional either defense OR post/power forward work. This can be finishes, post up play, face up play, driving, and being strong with the ball, keeping it high.
Finally we have a finisher we finish with. Finishing full court 4 layups in 2 minutes, in and out shooting drill, or a challenging drill to finish off the day.
