More About Coach Katie

I have always been passionate about coaching and started coaching individual sessions in 8th grade. I have worked with boys and girls 6+ in both Portland and Minnesota. I think it is important to develop the complete athlete and like to incorporate physical elements into sessions. I studied Biomechanical Engineering at Stanford, have shadowed a private practice strength and condition coach (mainly worked with middle school/high school kids) and have my XSOS Performance Specialist certification.

I was recently drafted by the Portland Thorns. Collegiately, I play center mid for University of Minnesota (2019-2021) and Stanford University (2021-2024). Some of my accomplishments include: Big-Ten All-Freshman Team my freshman year, All Big-Ten Second Team, Pac-12 champion, and NCAA runner-up. I have also represented the U14, U15, and U20 National Team. I grew up in Oregon, playing club soccer for FC Portland and Crossfire Premier. I attended Jesuit High School, where I was a part of two state-championship winning teams and was a USA Today All-American by senior year.

Individual sessions will usually consist of an agility warm-up, followed by technical work, and ending with position-specific work. I incorporate decision-making and game realistic components into each session. Sessions are tailored to what the player wants to work on. Some areas I specialize in are: first touch, passing combinations, and shooting and passing technique (driven balls, bending balls, etc.).

Client Reviews

I’ve trained with Katie many times, and she is always someone who I’ve looked up to. She’s not only an amazing coach, but she is also a player who i’ve been inspired by, given all of her accomplishments. Katie is such a positive and encouraging person, while her trainings are very game realistic but also challenging. I have learned so much from Katie as a coach and have improved a lot as a player, being able to incorporate everything she has taught me onto the field. I always look forward to Katie’s sessions just by how fun and beneficial they are!
My son, Jordan Nguyen, benefited greatly from training with Katie. Not only did she teach him how to train with the highest intensity, her exercises were game-like scenarios which really helped him to be better in his matches. She coached with a great balance that pushed him hard while keeping it fun.
We love Katie! She trained our daughters for over a year while playing for the Gophers Women's. Her ability to incorporate her playing experience and technical skills made her coaching style unique. As a result, her sessions are developmentally focused yet fun at the same time. Katie motivated our daughters to work hard and inspired them to get to the next level. Our daughters are some of the top girls in their club, and they continue to use many skills they learned from her. Given the opportunity, we would love to have Katie train our girls again, and we highly recommend her Coaching service to anyone!
