More About Coach Kate

Most recently I coached three years of Division I lacrosse at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. While in Virginia I also gave private lessons to middle school aged girls and really enjoyed the 1-on-1 setting. Prior to my time in Richmond, I spent two years as the volunteer assistant coach at the University of Louisville and spent one year as the varsity head coach at the Louisville Collegiate School in Kentucky. While in Kentucky I also coached club lacrosse.

I played four years of Division I collegiate lacrosse at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. I was a three-year starter and two-time captain for the Tribe. In 2007 I received the Commissioner's Award for academic excellence and in my senior year I won the Feffie Barnhill Leadership award for our team.

Basics, basics, basics! Once we nail those down, then we can move on. I am a huge proponent of fine tuning both stick work and footwork, and then moving on to more advanced skills and concepts. I really enjoy seeing and celebrating skill and conceptual improvements in my athletes. I am a positive coach who will also demand a lot from my athletes. I am an encourager by nature, but will also challenge you to achieve more than you imagined you could on the field.

All my sessions will begin with stick work. I believe in training players to use both hands at a young age. Stick work is the most important part of the game. From there I will move on to other skill work- whether it be foot work, dodges, defensive position, midfield concepts, or shooting. Some of this will depend on what the athlete is looking for, and some will be at my discretion. If a group is involved then we can move onto bigger concepts involving other players on the field.

I am most passionate about seeing players achieve their goals and helping athletes learn the lessons that sport has to teach. If an athlete wants to play Division I lacrosse, I want to help get her there. If she hopes to make the JV team, I see this as just as wonderful an opportunity to help her achieve this goal!

Coach Kate is excellent and I would highly recommend her. My daughter had a session with her and she learned so much in that session. We have booked follow up sessions with Coach Kate.

Coach Kate was fantastic with my daughter. She gave her new drills that she could work with on her own. My daughter loves lacrosse and she came off the field raving about Coach Kate.

Coach Kate was great she started with the basics and engaged my child

My daughter had her first session with Coach Kate and already feels more confident! She had never placed lacrosse before and by the end of the session Kate had taught her the basics in all areas. Coach Kate is not only knowledgeable and skilled, but also kind and easy to learn from. She was eager to teach, and my daughter had a wonderful time learning and interacting with her. Coach Kate is both a talented and kind teacher and we will continue sessions with her, as long as we can!

My daughter is brand new to Lacrosse and has had two training sessions with Coach Kate to begin to understand the intricacies of the game and to develop solid fundamentals and techniques. After the first session, it was clearly evident that Coach Kate possesses a genuine desire to coach and mentor Lacrosse players of any age and ability. My daughter has come away from each session very enthused about learning the sport and complimentary of Coach Kate's coaching skills. In my opinion, Coach Kate's friendly demeanor and encouragement helped her connect with my daughter right from the start. We are truly fortunate to have found Coach Kate as her experience both as a player and coach is a unique combination that she leverages to make every session as enjoyable and productive as possible. I would without a doubt recommend her as a coach to any player that is just starting out in Lacrosse or one that is looking to take their game to the next level. Thanks Kate!

My daughter had her first session with Coach Kate and loved it! In this session, Coach Kate took the time to show my daughter (and demonstrate) proper shot technique. They did rep after rep until my daughter felt comfortable before moving on. I know that even just this first lesson will already make a difference in her game! Coach Kate is friendly, extremely knowledgeable, responsive, and very easy to understand and learn from. We are so excited to have met her and to continue to work with her. We would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a top notch lacrosse coach.

Kate coached and mentored my daughter in lacrosse over the course of two years while she was a coach at the University of Richmond. Gracie's fundamentals improved significantly under Kate's teaching, and she improved dramatically as a player. We also really appreciated the way in which Kate mentored the girls, and helped them to develop not only as lacrosse players, but also as young women.
