More About Coach Justin
I currently coach a 9 and under club basketball team and currently implement a variety of basketball, as well as conditioning and speed work to improve performance in game situations. I believe that a combination of skill and speed work will provide athletes with the tools that can be used in games and boost performance in the short and long term. I have recently graduated from ASU with a degree in Nutrition (Dietetics) and I have a passion for working with youth athletes, up to the high school level of competition.
I did not coach at a high school.
I played basketball competitively up to the high school varsity level at Chaparral High School, and won the award for the best offensive player as a Sophomore on the JV team. I still play basketball to this day, and I enjoy trying new sports and staying involved in physical activities on a daily basis.
I played in High School, but did not play in College.
A typical session would include a dynamic warm-up to get started, and would then transition into skill based work. Skill based training would include a variety of ball-handling drills, with a focus on improving the weak hand so that the athlete is not limited to only go right or left. I would also include different speed and agility work, using an agility ladder, jump rope, and cones to improve straight line and lateral speed. I would also combine these with skill based basketball moves, and ensure that the athlete is able to maintain skill based movements when fatigued. I'm constantly looking for new drills that are interesting and will provide a challenge to my athletes, with an overall objective of improving in game performance and skill level.
