More About Coach Josh
Currently I work for the Delmarva Shorebirds in Salisbury, Maryland. I came from the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, Florida. Formerly, I was a coach for Protential sports, coaching kids from ages 4-15. I specialize in baseball where I teach the fundamentals, rules and the right way to play the game. I have a complete understanding of high school, junior college, Divisions I, II, and III rules and regulations for athletic compliance, making me very vital to kids older then the age of 15 as well. Furthermore, I assisted the Mississippi State University coaching staff with operating their Trackman analytic system for two years as I received my degree in sports management. The Trackman analytic system has not only opened my eyes to a new age of baseball, it has also strengthened my passion for the old age of baseball.
At age 14 I played for Virginia Patriots, #7 in the U.S.A (55-5). At age 16, I was selected to the Under Armor Southwest Tournament Team (Jupiter, Fl). Additionally I played for the NVTBL Stars (2009), #13 in the U.S.A., coached by Ron Tugwell (Most wins for any baseball coach in Virginia High School Baseball History). I was a 4 year Varsity Lettermen at Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, VA.
• 1st team All District (3x) - Baseball
• 2nd team All Region (1x) Honorable Mentioned (1x) - Baseball
• All Edison Team – 2010 (Top 3 athletes of Thomas A. Edison High School)
• Baseball team MVP (3x) Edison Varsity Baseball 2007 - 2010
I received an 85% scholarship to become a 2 year starter and captain of the Hagerstown Junior College Baseball team. While there, I led the team in batting average, hits, and runs scored while competing in the most games and playing eight of the nine positions. Allowing me to garner a full perspective of collegiate baseball while on the field. I also played two years of semi-pro baseball in Tupelo, MS.
The first ten minutes are always dedicated to setting a game plan for that day and stretching/warming-up the areas of muscles that we intend to use that given day. My drills are meant to test, not only physical ability, but more importantly your mental capacity. I teach the art of hitting, through a seven step process, which teaches how to hit a baseball to all fields. I teach bat control, plate awareness, situational hitting, and most importantly, I always teach aggressive nature (the first one might be the best one). When it comes to the arms of a player, I am conscious of the sensitivity of their arms. My pitching/throwing regimen is quite different. When it comes to a pitcher; I teach 30ft-60ft 6in-90ft-120ft. It is a 15 week program that is a combination of Hagerstown Community College Pitching staff and the Mississippi State University Pitching staff.
Pitching Program.
30Ft: 30%, Location, knee work, ball rotation of pitches, follow through, 90 degree arm rotation, and glove pull.
60Ft 6 inches: 60%, Location, ball rotation of pitches, follow through, arm extension, glove pull, pitch outs, pick offs, back up assignments, PFP's (pitchers fielding position), and 1 inning from stretch.
90ft: 70%, Location, follow through, arm extension, glove pull, leg drive, wide-base into karaoke throw, work on full wind-up.
120ft: 50%-70%, Long-toss session, arm extension, fluid motion in delivery, staying with the same arm slot to create consistent accuracy, follow through, glove pull, its okay to bounce the ball as long as your motion is staying consistent and fluid.
For Hitting it is a 7 Step Process:
I teaching hitting from the ground up. The legs and hips generate the energy and power to be able to hit the ball hard.
1. Strong Base
2. Knocking Knuckles and Bat Positioning
3. Load
4. Hip Explosion
5. Knob to the Ball
6. Inside the Baseball
7. Through the Baseball to all fields.
I played 8 of the 9 positions (exc. 1B), playing over 25 collegiate games at shortstop and over 25 collegiate games at catcher as a freshmen. Sophomore year, I played 35 games in Right Field and Center field.

Catching
My catchers will spend the majority of the session in their full gear. Understandably, I preach that you practice how you plan to play the game.
A daily workout would consist of:
Stretch and Warm-up- (10 minutes)
Proper base of Catching and how to allign- (10 minutes)
Receiving Drill w/ tennis ball and no mitt- (7 minutes)
Agility Drill- (3 minutes)
Replacing feet with knees- (7 minutes)
Endurance Drill- (3 minutes)
Water**
Getting around the baseball- (7 minutes)
Strength Drill- (3 minutes)
Cool Down and talk Pitching Staff Management- (10 minutes)
The last 10-15 minutes are always spent on specialized aspects of the game. Whether it be situational decision making, base-running, what to look for in the field or at the plate, and most importantly how to carry yourself as a ballplayer on and off the field.

Josh was friendly and knowledgable. He was on time and prepared. I learned a lot in my first session and look forward to a few follow up sessions to make sure I retain and apply what I learned.
Head Baseball Coach Steve Palese (Testimonial)
Josh Knupp was a leader on and off the field. His teammates referred to him as Coach Knupp even when he was a player. His passion for the game shines in every action he makes around a baseball field. I would refer Josh to be an ambassador of the game in any baseball capacity he so chooses.
