More About Coach Jonathan

I have been coaching and training athletes since 2015, with a focus on speed and agility training. My coaching experience spans across various levels, from elementary school to high school, as well as private training. I’ve held significant coaching positions such as the head track and field and cross country jobs at the high school level. In addition to working in schools, I provide private coaching to athletes, including those with special needs such as ADHD and autism.

Typically, I work with elementary, middle and high school athletes, helping them improve their athletic performance using track and field fundamentals. My expertise includes football, track and track and field drawing from my own athletic background. While I don’t currently hold any specific industry certifications, my coaching is based on over a decade of practical experience such as coaching the #1 400 meter sprinter in CA in 2022, and and learning from several renowned coaches throughout my career.

In terms of my athletic accomplishments, I was a Junior Olympic bronze medalist and a Super Bowl youth champion. During my high school years, I became a CIF football champion at Hart High School, and later, I earned 2nd team All-Conference honors as a sprinter at College of the Canyons. These experiences shaped my approach to athletics and laid the foundation for my passion for coaching. While I didn’t compete at the professional level, the lessons I learned from my competitive days have driven my commitment to helping younger athletes develop their skills and reach their full potential.

A typical session with me begins with a dynamic warm-up that emphasizes track and field fundamentals. This warm-up prepares the body for more intense activity and focuses on flexibility, mobility, and coordination to prevent injury and build a strong foundation for speed and agility. I then tailor the session based on the specific needs of the athlete, which are measured through data collection and performance assessments.

If the focus is on speed, we’ll work through a series of drills such as acceleration sprints, resisted runs, and technique refinement, concentrating on form, foot placement, and stride mechanics. If the session targets strength, we’ll incorporate explosive movements, plyometrics, and strength-based exercises to build the power necessary for peak athletic performance.

Throughout the session, I provide feedback, track progress, and make adjustments as needed to ensure continuous improvement. Every session is designed to challenge the athlete while focusing on their long-term goals, ensuring steady progress toward peak performance.

Client Reviews

I have two sons who are training for football ages 11 and 14. Coach Choi was simply amazing. The teaching was tailored to their ages and their abilities. He was patient and thoughtful and communicated the training, directions, and expectations extremely well. He consistently finds ways to engage and motivate them. My boys are always looking forward to their next session and watching them grow their confidence is invaluable.

Coach Choi’s expertise in speed and agility training is unmatched. His dedication to my progress has made a huge impact on my athletic performance. Not only did I see measurable improvements in my speed and strength, but I also developed a new level of mental toughness and focus under his guidance. Coach Choi understands what it takes to succeed and pushes you to reach your full potential, always with a tailored approach that meets individual needs. His background as a high-level athlete and coach truly shines through in every session. Training with Coach Choi has been a game-changer!
