More About Coach Jonathan

I am currently the Pitching Coordinator for the New York Mets, and have previously been a Pitching Coordinator and Pitching Coach in the Texas Rangers organization. As a former professional baseball player in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, and former pitching coach at the University of Texas at Dallas, I have a vast knowledge of the game with both coaching and extensive playing experience. I have been giving private lessons for several years now, in addition to working camps and group lessons with all ages. I've created training programs consisting of plyometric, strength and flexibility workouts as well as velocity-based throwing programs that preach mechanical efficiency.

I have plenty of experience with coaching the baseball swing and am looking to venture into helping softball swings as well. Though there are some differences between both swings, there are more similarities between the two.

I graduated from Pine Crest High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL where I was a three-year letter winner as a starting pitcher and first baseman for the Panthers. I started 11 games on the mound as a senior and set a school record with 9 complete games, striking out 66 batters in 71 innings. I also batted .361 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI. A 2007 Miami Herald All-Broward County Class 4A-1A first-team selection as a pitcher, I captained the Panthers, earning team MVP award and team pitcher of the year.

I then attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL where I was a four-year starting pitcher for the Saints and set numerous school records, including most starts in a career with 51. As a sophomore, I was a second-team all-Peach Belt Conference honoree and honorable mention all-Southeast Region selection by the NCBWA. I threw over 313 innings during my collegiate career, striking out 255 batters.

Following my senior season, I was drafted in the 30th Round of the MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. I played in both the Arizona and Pioneer Rookie Leagues in my first professional season, compiling a 3.27 ERA. I played for the Brewers' Class A affiliate Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League in the 2013 season, with a 3.89 ERA over 39.1 IP with 41 strikeouts.

Throwing: Primary focus on teaching proper warm-up and arm care. Attempt to teach proper throwing motion in order to enhance arm speed, strength and accuracy. It is my belief that there is no such thing as "perfect mechanics", however there are several points through a throwing motion that are necessary for success. I do not have a 'cookie cutter' approach and will not try to mold any athlete to fit one style. Frame-by-frame video analysis will be used. Through the Coach's Eye mobile app, I am able to add voice-over analysis which I can then email you for personal use and improvement.

Hitting: Tee-work, side toss, front toss and challenging batting practice. Primarily focusing on proper balance, bat path, approach and attacking of the baseball to produce hard hit line drives. I am extremely particular with regard to maintaining proper lower-half and overall balance and sequencing through the swing to arrive on-time and on-plane. Frame-by-frame video analysis will be used. Through the Coach's Eye mobile app, I am able to add voice-over analysis which I can then email you for personal use and improvement. While making mechanical adjustments is a major part of becoming a better hitter, a "great swing" does not always equal a "great hitter" and we will also spend a large portion of the time breaking down the other important aspects of 'hitting.'

Client Reviews

I could see improvement in my sons mechanics after one lesson.

Great and patient coach!

We are very pleased with our first session with Coach Jonathan. He asked questions and listened to what we were looking to accomplish in one on one lessons. We did not feel rushed and appreciated how he took the time to provide detailed feedback. We look forward to the next lesson.

Coach Jonathan didn't waste any time getting to the aspects I needed help with. The entire session was efficient and effective. He has been available for follow up questions as well which is the hallmark of a coach with a heart to guide athletes to excel. Thanks so much Coach Jonathan, you are awesome!

Jonathan worked great with my 11-year-old. More than just telling, Jonathan seeks to understand the athlete and what the athlete knows and is feeling. He established communication first, then helped to improve motion and bring out the athleticism needed to perform at a much higher level. Looking forward to our next session!

My son walked away from his session with Coach really impressed with his knowledge and Coach's analysis of my son's capabilities matched with what he should be doing to change a few things. He has been working on these suggestions ever since. We will definitely be headed back for more sessions.

Coach Armold takes a vested interest in your player and adjusts his approach to meet the personalities and learning style of your player.

He worked with my 14 year old that plays at the AAA and Majors level and improved his confidence and effectiveness at the plate. He also developed his pitching mechanics. The 14 year old needs a kick in the pants at times and Jonathan knew just when and how to do that.

Then he turned his attention to my 9 yr old and made it a fun engaging Experience helping him to focus on one aspect of his hitting that to this day, my son remembers.

Coach is reliable and takes a personal interest in seeing your player improve. I strongly recommend him snd my only wish is that we could find more time with him. He is highly sought after as you would expect.

Personable, knowledgable and right mix of practical coach speak mixed with 9 year old relatable analogies to make for a great first session with Coach J. After the practice I asked my son if he liked it. And he said, "No. I loved it!". A thumbs up from both my son and I. We will book again.

Bottom line: After 5 sessions with Jonathan, I choose to book 5 more.
My son is a JV level player eager to move up to the Varsity level. Jonathan's work with my son has produced significantly improved throwing and hitting mechanics. Jonathan is the best private coach we've experienced.
Jonathan relates well to those he coaches. His is able to see minor mechanical issues and demonstrate how to overcome or correct the issue.

Jonathan is very professional and easy to work with. After one session, we determined that he has terrific knowledge of the game. Our son liked him a lot, and we look forward to working with him in further sessions.

Coach Jonathan has been an excellent coach and guide for both my little league boys. He explains concepts in detail, gives great individual feedback and keeps things positive and fun. We have worked on both pitching and hitting and his level of expertise and attention to detail is excellent in both areas. Highly recommend this coach!

My son is 14 and just entered HS this year. He is a very good pitcher and hitter playing AAA and Major level select baseball. He has been working with Coach Armold for the past month. Coach Armold has a great focus on mechanics and angle of attack. The visual aides and drills coach uses really have helped my son understand correct technique and how to achieve it. Our sessions are well organized, with each drill progressively building upon the previous drill. My son has pitched in three games since working with Coach Armold, the results have been excellent. I would recommend Coach A to anyone with wanting their son to learn proper mechanics and approach.

Learning the exercises and everyday routine Coach Armold taught me allowed me to work confidently on my own. I was very confident I would see results and I did. Also, Coach Armold's intensity, care, and passion created a player-coach relationship that furthered my passion for baseball and encouraged me to work harder.
