More About Coach John

I am currently the Graduate Assistant Coach for Trevecca Men's Basketball Team (NCAA DII). I work along side the head coach and two assistant coaches. Age group is mostly teenagers and adults ranging from 17 to 25 years. I am also responsible of training them in the weight room helping them with lifting strategies. I have also participated in a lot of camps mostly consisting of children ages between 5 to 13 years of age in Russellville, Ky and Saint John, NB. I volunteered to coach kids at Trevecca University during summer camps held at Trevecca by the school while I was still in school there. At the moment I am workings towards completing my master program in Leadership and Management.

NOTE: I CAN ONLY COACH 9TH GRADERS AND BELOW BECAUSE OF NCAA RULES AND REGULATIONS.

I played basketball at Trevecca Nazarene University -NCCAA DII for 4 years 2009 - 2013. I won the MVP for the team during my senior year (2013). At the end of the year I was awarded with G-MAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team (2013), I was also named to NCCAA DII Mid-East all-region honorable mention. During my four year I Passed 1,000 point, and I am currently third in school blocked Shots. After graduating I played semi-professional basketball with Bowling Green located in Kentucky and will be playing during the up coming season at the beginning of march. I also played professional basketball with the Saint John Millrats in Saint John, NB in Canada. I have got multiple offers to go play overseas but I have decided to be graduate assistant at Trevecca University and get full scholarship to do my masters.

My typical session consist of multiple thing. The first thing I make sure I do with players is stretching and warm ups which i a very important part of basketball. I make sure players warm up by jogging around the court, doing 20 jumping jacks, sprinting two or three times, sliding and back peddling, high knees, squat jumps to half court then walk it off. Then we do 6 - 8 kinds of stretches that consist of arm string stretch, back stretch, calf stretch, quad stretch, and arm stretch. After doing stretches we do 5 layup with both left and right hands. Then we shoot 20 perimeter jumpers followed by 10 free throws while working on our form of shooting. That will be followed by 20 back board shoots then in the player is old enough to shoot 3 pointer we will shoot 50 three pointer on the baseline, elbow and at the top of the key. again we focus on our form of shooting. We will then shoot 10 free throws. Then we will work on ball handling starting with dribbling with two balls while still then when cutting and moving. We will use tennis ball to do this drill too. We then dribble in between orange corns while attacking the basket and shooting jumpers. We will screen and pop to shoot and fake the shot and drive to the basket and fake the shot and take one dribble and shoot. We will also do defensive slides and teach them defensive stands. We will also work on foot work when shooting and when playing defense. When done we will stretch before leaving the court. In between i make sure players stay hydrated by taking water break occasionally.
