With over 20 years coaching experience, USA Triathlon Level IIE Coach John Houfek coaches athletes of all abilities, from beginner to the most experienced, serious athletes. Coaching in individual sports - swimming, cycling or running - is also available. Coaching is based on a holistic approach that includes training in any one or all three sports, nutrition advice, and comprehensive full-body strength and core conditioning that are all phased into an annual plan for best individual results. mPower Fitness Coaching offers very competitive rates and daily athlete feedback.

All of your training will be tailored exclusively for you, at your level, in concert with the day-to-day demands of your life. A typical session is completely dependent on what you need. We could meet to work on swim technique with on-site video analysis, or do a dynamic bike fitting, or conduct a run form bio-mechanics analysis. We can meet to learn the proper way to conduct a periodized strength routine that complements your annual training, or work through a plan for your season races. I provide daily email contact, and additional contact options. Not only is he an inspiring athlete with decades of experience in his own right, he offsets his own personal successes with supportive encouragement and quiet resolve in aiding you in accomplishing any Triathlon goal. For me, John has helped me transition from just being a runner to being a triathlete. In the year that I’ve known John, he has provided me with a long-range strategy to aid me to my goals. For 2012, my main goal was to really improve on my swim. With the result being taking someone who could barely swim 50 yards in a pool, to someone who can swim a 1 mile swim in 30 minutes. Throughout the year, John has provided me the structure I needed to be more balanced in all three triathlon disciplines. I have enjoyed John’s coaching immensely as he has taken the mystery out of training. Now I no longer follow my friends in how they train. I worked with Coach Houfek for 9 months leading up to my successful participation in the Providence Ironman 70.3. Thanks to his efforts I was able to knock nearly 25 minutes off my time in the same event from the previous year, finishing in 5:45. Coach Houfek's guidance and broad knowledge of the sport helped me improve each of my three disciplines, but was particularly evident in the swim where I was almost 25 percent faster. In addition to a great flexible training plan, which I was able to execute around my sometimes crazy work schedule, Coach Houfek also gave me the whole-athlete perspective and the confidence to push myself beyond where I thought I could go.
John's training plan made a huge difference in my performance. He films the athlete performing each discipline, analyzes and reviews form with the athlete to improve form and prevent injury as the training program begins. He demonstrated and prescribed functional strength exercises that alleviated long standing back and shoulder mechanical problems I had. My overall health improved as a result of his coaching. He is an expert at training periodization. The result for me was the best half marathon I ran in 4 years, and the best half ironman triathlon finish I have achieved (of 4). I recommend training with John if you have the desire to put in the work to really improve performance. He made a big difference in mine.
