More About Coach Johan

I have previously worked as a coach during several summer tennis camps in Oslo, Norway, where I coached aspiring tennis talents. Additionally, I have given private lessons to players on various levels from kids to adults for several years. I now teach friends and students at university tennis courts; mostly at Northeastern.

I grew up playing tennis across the world competing against some of the top juniors. I was captain on the national Junior Tennis Team in Norway, and was ranked as the number 1 player in the country under 14, 16, 18. Additionally, I was ranked as the number 1 tennis player in Europe under 14 and won a bronze medal in the European Tennis Championship under 16. After high school I attended the University of North Carolina, where I played for the varsity men's tennis team my freshman year. During that time the team had one of it's best seasons ever, and we reached as high as #5 in the country.

During a session I work on fundamental stroke development, technical training, court movement, and match play. I try to mix up the drills, starting with basic ground-stroke hitting, followed by a few different feeding exercises from the basket. These exercises are meant to make the player work on court positioning, while simultaneously focusing on technique. I usually spend the last 15 minutes playing working on different point-situations.

Client Reviews

Johan is awesome. Easy to talk to and easy to train with. Lots of helpful tips and very fun and natural personality so no pressure and had an excellent work out!

I had my first ever private lesson with Johan. He was a fantastic coach, who helped me a lot with fundamental technical skills. Since then, I have had two more sessions. He is extremely patient and takes the time to really teach. I highly recommend him as a tennis instructor!!
I had been playing tennis for about a year when I had my first lesson with Johan and it was a great experience. His high level of skill and knowledge about tennis is truly shown when he teaches! After only a couple sessions I already felt like my strokes had improved. I used to make a lot of errors and didn't really have any thought behind my strokes. Johan was able to help me become a smarter, more stable player. Plus, you get a great workout, while having fun at the same time!
