More About Coach Joey
I have done coaching for Legacy Lacrosse and Islip Buccaneers Youth Lacrosse. I have coached at many different levels and all sorts of age groups but mostly from ages 6 - 16. I typically work with younger players and enjoy doing so! I have done many private lessons with local players from Islip and East Islip and I have also done private clinics at Progame Athletics. I have also been a camp counselor for numerous camps!
I was an All-County Midfielder for Islip High School and led the division in goals my senior year. After High School I played lacrosse at one of the most notorious Division III lacrosse schools in the country, SUNY Cortland. I played Midfield for my freshman, sophomore and junior year, and played Attack my senior year. At Cortland, I started every single game of my career, was the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, 4 time First Team All SUNYAC and was the first ever 4x All-American in Cortland History! I have played in many big games and have been a part of some great Cortland teams and with some of the best players to ever play at Cortland.
My sessions depend on the position of the player. Regardless, I will go through many of the basic fundamentals for the players positions and lacrosse in general. Then I will move toward the specifics of the position and work on what that player needs to work on. For midfielders, I will do a ton of dodging from up top and the wings and what to do and why when dodging from those specific positions on the field. And I also will do a ton of shooting drills with the player. I believe shooting is one of the most important things for a young lacrosse player or any lacrosse player for that matter. And for Attack man, we will do more dodging from X and secondary moves off the original dodger and also a ton of Time and Room and shooting on the run. I usually end my sessions with a fun lacrosse game that the players usually really love and yet still work on their skills!
