More About Coach Jim
I have been coaching high school and prep teams and players in Massachusetts for 20+years. I have worked numerous basketball camps and clinics, including Duke University's Coach K basketball camp. I am currently the assistant at Wilbraham Monson Academy. I have coached at Williston Prep School (assistant), West Springfield HS (Head Coach), Holyoke HS (Assistant) and Pioneer Valley Christian Academy, Springfield (Head Coach). I also served as the assistant coach of the Gold medal winning West team at the Baystate Games.
In high school I received All-WesternMass honors in basketball, baseball, and football. I was an honorable mention high school football All-American. I played college baseball at American International College in Springfield Massachusetts. As a sophmore I attained an 19 game hitting streak which led me finishing second in western mass in average behind future major leaguer Billy Jo Robidoux.
I always stress 3 areas of fundamentals while working out any level of basketball players: Ball handling, footwork, and shooting. Despite the individuals strengths or weaknesses, ball handling will always be done. Dribble pounds will be done to strengthen their fingers and hands. Footwork drills such as ladders and pivot foot balance will be performed as well. SHOOTNG: I believe the 3 most important shots in basketball are layups. free throws, and any other shot one feels comfortable shooting. Before we proceed with shooting I talk about stance, ball position in the hand, aim, follow through, and balance. I combine many drills to get the goals of the individual accomplished.
