More About Coach Jessica

I have coached girls at all levels ranging from kids of the age of 7 who were picking up their sticks for the first time to high schoolers committed to play at top NCAA schools. I have coached middle school to high school level lacrosse at the Air Force Academy Sports Camp for 7 years in a row. I also supervised and coached youth lacrosse for the City of Loveland and gained experience coaching for a new club in Denver called Denver United Lacrosse Club. I prefer working with high schoolers as they have more advanced skills to work on; however, I love growing the love for the game in any youth wanting to explore the art of lacrosse.

In high school, I received All-Area and All-League Honorable Mention as a Freshman, All-League First Team and All-Area First Team as a sophomore, All-Area First Team and All-State and All-America Honorable Mention as junior, and All-League, All-State and All-America First Team selections as senior. I helped lead Air Academy to back-to-back state final four appearances and helped lead Air Academy to win the State Title in 2012 and 2014. In 2015, I was named the high school Lacrosse Sportswomen of Colorado.

At the collegiate level, I played NCAA D1 field hockey at Syracuse University but ended up transferring in 2015 to Colorado State University. I went on to play club lacrosse at CSU where I earned All-America First Team titles sophomore through senior year, as well as was the WCLA Midfielder of the Year in 2017. In 2019, I was given the opportunity to play NCAA D2 at Regis University. While at Regis, I was a part of the 2019 RMAC All-Tournament Team and a 2019 All-RMAC Honorable Mention. In 2020, I received a RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award in March.

The first thing I like to work on are the basic techniques whether that is offensively or defensively. I firmly believe that the best players continuously work on the basics in order to be able to master more difficult skills. Offensively I look at shooting form and technique, as well as where the power is coming from. Drills I implement for attackers include focus on 1v1's, footwork after receiving a feed in the 8, staying strong with defensive pressure, and driving with your eyes up to feed if defenses slide. Defensively, I focus on footwork and the approach to ball. Drills I implement for defenders include added focus on 1v1's, footwork both on and off ball, defending cutters in the 8, and overall field vision.

A private session would start with stickwork and footwork (ladders and cones). From here, the drills are specialized to the individual - attack or defense (if a midfielder we would work on both). An hour session would include up to 5 different drills.
