More About Coach Jay
My recent coaching experience includes individual training sessions, as well being an assistant coach for the Milton High School Boys Varsity team. Coaching has long been a passion of mine, but something I haven't had the chance to fully pursue in my professional life with work and my two sons taking up most of my time. After wrapping up my college playing career, I entered the business world, starting with corporate sales for the New England Revolution. Currently I am an executive for a software company and I intend to pursue coaching closer to full time later in life (LinkedIn bio can be found here - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaywilson10/). I do have experience coaching middle school aged kids through the non-profit Soccer Without Borders (where I also served on the development committee) and extensive mentoring experience, both through leadership positions at work, as well as volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Career Collaborative (a now merged organization that helped underemployed find work).
Right now I am looking for 1-2 hour sessions with those who have a love for soccer and want to further their skills. I'm most interested working with ages 12-21 with the hope that I can positively impact high school (or those soon entering) and college aged players. Combining my passion for the sport, along with mentoring and helping others is my goal in being on this website. I am looking to make these sessions as low cost as possible as I am focused on using my experience to help, rather than viewing this as a source of income. That's shared as context for the low price of $5 per session.
I attended high school in Hingham, Massachusetts, where I was a captain and starting center mid. I graduated in 2006 and was an Eastern Massachusetts & Patriot League All Star, Patriot Ledger All Scholastic, as well as named team MVP by my teammates. Our team had back to back undefeated seasons and won the South Sectional my senior year before falling in the state semi-finals in double overtime.
With offers to play collegiately, I decided to opt for the club soccer route to have a balanced college experience and earned a spot on the team at Penn State University, which has historically been one of the top club soccer teams in the country. We consistently won the Northeast regional as the best collegiate club team in the region and finished in the top 8 in the country at the NIRSA National Championship my junior and senior year. I was a starting center mid both of those seasons before graduating in 2010.
I've continued to play after college in some of the top men's leagues in Massachusetts (BSSL, MSSL NEOTHSL) as I can't quit my love for chasing a ball around, even into my 30s.
For me being a high level soccer player comes down to being strong in three areas: technique (touch, dribbling, turns, passing, shooting), intelligence (decision making, positioning, tactical awareness), and fitness. My sessions will focus primarily on the first two with fitness being gained through our drills together.
I'll start by getting to know you (your position, level, areas you'd like to improve) and then come up with a session plan that will emphasize the most relevant techniques. I'll share this session plan ahead of time, but we may make some adjustments on the fly. Our sessions will move quickly through different drills, but we'll make sure to take time to talk through the situational implications of the drills we're practicing and how they'll come into play in a game. I'm an absolute soccer nerd (I watch way more soccer than I should and have been a New England Revolution season ticket holder for over ten years since I worked for them in corporate sales), so if you're also a student and fan of the game, we can talk about how players put different techniques into play.
Above all else, these sessions should be fun. Developing has to start with a love and passion from the game and if these sessions are a drain, then I am not doing my job effectively. My hope is that I can give you a few skills to work on and it will fan a fire to want to get better and better through the joy of progress and the fun of the sport.

Coach Jay was a great coach! His training and techniques are definitely top notch. He sent the training details in advance so I could review and discuss with him before each session. He's flexible and willing to add some extras to the training plan based on my request. I would recommend coach Jay to anyone.

My son had a terrific training session with Coach Jay!
Jay, prepared a thoughtful and age-appropriate training plan for our 60-min session and did a great job in assessing my son’s skills and abilities to personalize the training experience!
During the warm ups he got to know my son, his favorite teams, players, positions of choice and what he was most excited to work on.
The drills that Jay picked for the session were on point and he kept the training dynamic and moving at a good pace which kept my son appropriately challenged and having fun!
I especially appreciate how personable, supportive and encouraging Jay was throughout the entire session! It’s hard to find someone who has clearly mastered the skills AND can relate to and inspire younger kids they way coach Jay can!
My son walked away from the session with some new and improved dribbling, juggling and 1v1 skills as well as a big smile on his face!
From my son and me, thank you Jay!!
