More About Coach Jayson
I have coached Clear Brook High School's summer team for four years, ranging from the sophomore, junior varsity and varsity teams. I have coached athletes that have gone on to play at major D1 colleges such as Kansas State and Texas A&M.
In high school I was second team all-district 3rd baseman and first team all-district utility player in consecutive years. I was 1 of only 4 players in my district, senior year, that hit .400 or better during district play. I went on to play two years at Cedar Valley College, where I helped lead my team to the playoffs in both years. I then attended The University of Texas at Dallas where I finished my last two years of baseball. In college, I played 2nd base, shortstop, 3rd base, left field, and center field.
I would first talk to the client and see what area(s) of focus we want to work on. We can cater our session around any specific need. On offense, we would take a look at the swing and make sure the fundamentals are there. I would look at everything from the grip, his balance throughout the swing, his hips and hands. I have many drills available to help provide a short, compact swing that is essential for consistent results. On defense, we would make sure his throwing and fielding mechanics are where they need to be. We would get into position specific drills (middle infield, corner infield, outfield) and go over the correct glove and footwork. There are many drills that can be ran for baseball players at all skill levels.
At the end of each session I like to just take a minute to review some of the material learned for the day, and provide the client with some tips he can focus on while he is at practice, or on his own.
