My training plan is individualized for each client because every client has different needs. So before meeting the first time, I will ask the client / parent what they need to work on. Then the first session, the workout will consist of basketball basics (shooting, passing, dribbling, fundamentals) so I can get a feel for what they need to work on. From there, I will design a step by step workout plan through my ladder training method to advance their skill set. This is a building block system that focuses on muscle memory and many repetitions to lead to overall improvement.

Coach Jay is amazing! I’m a busy corporate adult in my 30s. I play in recreational leagues and just want to be more helpful to my teammates while getting in shape!
He gives useful feedback and is firm when needed, but encouraging when drills are going well.

Coach Jay has a reason and explanation for every drill he does. My son feels like he is learning and getting better every workout he has with Coach Jay.
Zoya (CoachUp client)
Coach Jay is Fantastic… His knowledge for the game is Superb.
What I love about Coach Jay is that he is patient with the process of building a strong rounded player. If and when he sees an area of weakness he will work on that area while building on additional area’s. I’m extremely excited to have him as my son’s coach. We look forward to our ongoing relationship with Coach Jay.
Tricia (CoachUp client)
Coach Jay is wonderful! Our son enjoyed training with Jay this summer and has continued to work on the skills he learned. Jay's competence and credibility are fantastic! Highly recommended!
Matt Rea, Director of Basketball Operations at Northern Kentucky University (Testimonial)
Jay is the ideal trainer for young men, because he does a great job of explaining and coaching in a way that is detail-oriented, while making those details easy to understand for the players. He is always researching ways to most effectively train others, and he understands the level of preparation that is involved to ultimately get the most out of who he is training. He truly is thoughtful in how he approaches who he is training and what they need to work on.
Isiah Price, Skills Trainer (Testimonial)
I have worked with Jay for two years at Northern Kentucky University. I am extremely proud and thankful I was put in the same position to work with someone that had passion and love for the game of basketball. He made major contributions to the program and helped me grow as an individual. Throughout our two years, Jay worked with players daily, helping them develop as players on and off the court. Jay is a wonderful person and has a great mindset in helping kids develop on the court. He is one of the best trainers that I know!
Ann Evans, Parent of a Client (Testimonial)
I have brought my son to Jay for lessons for over three years now, and I have nothing but great things to say about our experience. He is very flexible and approachable, making him easy to work with; he also is a great basketball mind that has helped my son's game grow exponentially. My son just reached out and thanked him again for how much he has helped him. It saddens me that we are moving because we can't continue to work with Jay!! I would recommend him to any parent or player looking for a quality person and a quality coach.
Rob Slone, High School Basketball Coach (Testimonial)
Jay is one of those unique trainers that not only understands the game, but knows what to train, and when. He's not going to change a players shot in season, but will make major changes in the off season. His clients will reach their potential much sooner when they work on "game" skills. He doesn't waste their time on all of the flashy tricks that won't translate into the game. He also builds relationships with his clients that allow them to trust the process and to get the most of their time with Jay. I highly recommend him if you're just beginning or if you play at a high level and want to take that next step!!
