More About Coach Jason

I have been a personal coach for most of my life - from working with my younger brother on his game throughout his childhood, to working with local elementary school, middle school, high school, and college players. I take pride in teaching kids not only how to play the game at their highest level, but also how to handle themselves off the court, as well. The lessons learned through this game can set someone up for many successes in life, if utilized correctly.

I am a 6'9" shooting guard, who shot over 74% from 2, and over 56% from 3 for their professional career. I can turn any player into an unstoppable offensive threat.

I was crowned "Mr. Oregon Basketball" and McDonald's All-American my senior year of high school in 2003, played in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen with Cornell University (Ivy League) in 2009, and played 5yrs of professional basketball in Europe and the United States. My career was capped off in 2013 by becoming a practice player for the Portland Trail Blazers - a position I held until moving to Denver, CO later that season.

My first session with clients is solely used to determine skill level. Finding out what a player's strengths and weaknesses are is a must in order to build a proper workout plan. I will put the player through basic ball handling, shooting, and positioning drills until I have an understanding what the player's skill set looks like. From there, every session will be based on strengthening their weaknesses, while sharpening/exploiting their strengths.

Coach Jason was a pleasure to work with. We are looking forward to Payton's continued with with this coach and seeing how for he can go. Coach Jason arrived early and spent over an hour working closely with Payton, tailoring much of the lesson to working with Payton on what his team at the time needed in addition to fundamentals and practice drills. The summary he sent after the lesson was detailed and gave my son specific points that he should be working on. I am very happy with this choice!

Coach Jason is amazing!! My son had the best experience and learned so much. My only regret was not doing it sooner. I would give him 6 stars if I could!!!!!!

Jason's the best

Jason's observations are spot on and he is very effective at communicating what my son needs to do to improve his game. He has a great perspective of the game and how to train effectively with purpose. He is extremely upbeat and positive and my son really enjoys training with him. My son has definitely improved since he starting working out with Jason.

Friendly & knowledgeable! The 1st session with Jason was structured and focused - my daughter learned a lot.

Very impressed with the first lesson, the focus and walkaways! Really appreciate the time, philosophy and approach. Looking forward to the next lesson.

I was very pleased with my son's first workout with Coach Jason. My son is very shy and Coach Jason immediately made him feel comfortable and related very well to him. Coach Jason spent time evaluating my son's overall game and was able to focus on his specific needs. He is extremely knowledgeable about each position and loves the game. My son enjoyed and learned a lot from his first workout and definitely wants to continue working with Coach Jason. We plan to work with him on a regular basis.

Coach Jason does a great job. He relates well to my teenage boys, gives them helpful advice and skills to improve their game. The boys enjoy working with Coach Jason; they can see improvement in their skills after each session with him.

Coach Jason knows what he's talking about and really showed within just 5 minutes of meeting him. He gave me tools to work on to improve my game which will help me with my next session with him. Great coach overall.

My daughter has met Jason twice. Wow what a change in her playing ability. Jason is able to speak to her level and to have her understand. Highly recommend Jason.

Our first session with Coach Jason went very well. He is very knowledgable and his love for the game shows. My son Mikey said he had fun and learned a lot he had not been taught before. He was excited to go home and practice what was worked on during the session. We look forward to future session's with Coach Jason

Coach Jason taught our son some good fundamental skills he could use immediately in his game as well as provided a follow up e-mail summarizing the key lessons learned & what to focus on during practice. Most especially, he was not critical, but rather encouraging, empathic & helpful.

Knowledgeable and energetic coach. For each of the techniques he introduced to my son, he explained the reasoning for the move (defense is taking away the right hand drive, so ball fake then drive left, etc) and then demonstrated the technique.

He explained his basketball journey that resonated with my son - change of position because of growth spurt as a high school player, then transition to a small forward/shooting guard in the pros because he wasn't tall enough. These transitions forced him to work on all aspects of his game throughout his career, and you can tell because he has an all-around game.

I left my first session with multiple workouts/drills to practice on my own and am looking forward to the next session. Any basketball player of any skill level would benefit from sessions with Coach Jason. Coach Jason is very knowledgeable and teaches in a way that is easily understandable. I would recommend this coach to anyone looking to quickly improve their game and fundamentals.

Coach Jason is very professional, and knowledgeable. My daughter and I are very pleased to have met him and look forward to our future with him as our coach.

After weeks of observing and interviewing basketball coaches, we found THE BEST coach- Jason Hartford. Jason ended up being more than just a coach; he is a role model and mentor for our son, Brooks. In a field where all too often players are celebrated and idolized for their showmanship, on and off the court, Jason taught our son that being a smart player, both in school and on the court, is a "cool" thing. Using motivation, encouragement and coaching solid basketball fundamentals, Jason taught Brooks to work hard and push himself as an individual for the good of the team. Without a doubt, any child would greatly benefit from Jason's work ethic, mentoring skills and positive attitude!
