More About Coach Jared
I spent 3+ years after my division 1 playing career at Yale University coaching lacrosse and football athletes in Westport, CT. I have Head Coached a variety of ages from 5th graders with the Connecticut Chargers summer program to Westport 8th grade A team. I developed my own book of lessons business across the Fairfield County, CT area ranging from middle schoolers trying to progress to an eventual varsity level to division 1 committed lacrosse athletes.
During my New York State playing career, I received 1st Team All Onondaga County Honors 2 consecutive years and Honorable Mention All Onondaga County as a Sophomore. I am a 2-time varsity letter winner at Yale University for lacrosse. Was a highly recruited M/A in 2010, received scholarship offers from division 1 programs like Duke, Syracuse, Penn St, Georgetown, UPenn, Notre Dame, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton, Ohio St., Brown, and UNC. I still play the game today having won the Aspen Goerne Cup twice, Vail Masters once, and competed in the CLL for 4+ Seasons.
1. Diagnostic: Discover what the particular client needs and can achieve from my individual lessons expertise. Everyone is different depending on age, team situation, motivations, etc.
2. Comprehensive Assessment: They will feel challenged and out of their lacrosse comfort zone with many of the drills I throw at them for shooting (L&R), Shooting on the run (L&R), Passing (L&R), Passing on the Run (L&R), Playmaking (L&R), Dodging & Carrying, Change of Direction, Change of Speed, Footwork, Finishing Inside (L&R), Catching (L&R). I instruct each player with certain questions in mind that their play answers. For example, "do they dodge head up on a swivel in drills or is their head down staring at their feet?" e.g. "Does their stick protection/carry and foot work integrate seamless transitions when dodging, shooting, changing hands, and changing directions?" e.g. "How much of a difference is their between their left and right hand across all requisite skillsets in lacrosse?"
3. Skill Prescription: Drills for the player based on their weaknesses and motivations. I work a lot on shot maximizing drills for both the step down time and room as well as on the run shooting. Once I can get them to a certain level with shooting skills, I implement dodging to on the run shooting and time/room shooting with a variety of combination moves and added complexities. Hitches, splits, splits to rollbacks, hitches to rollbacks, inside rolls, face dodges, power moves, wing dodges, dodges from x (finalizer, question mark, rocker, inside roll, break stick, MJ's.) Usually after hard work through multiple dodges/combination dodges that we finish focusing on making great shots I cool the players down with some catching and finishing inside really focused on tricking the goalie. I may even do this with tennis balls to make it harder to catch and I'll play goalie in a 3x net to force them to move me and give them even smaller target practice. I can also coach Defenders as it was my first position on the field form 1st-6th grade. That would be a whole different set of the structure I laid out above but I would draw on my experience being coached by Ric Beardsley division 1 All American at Syracuse University as a Defender to implement effective evaluation and drill prescription.
I work on shooting dodging and defense. My tactics are extensive but I take a unique passion in serious player development. I break players down from the feet up to enhance in game scoring and dodging ability.
