More About Coach Jamie

I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. I received a scholarship to play soccer at a Division II college in North Carolina where I earned my undergraduate degree in physical education. I also have a Masters in Teaching and an NC Professional Teaching License from UNC-Pembroke.

I coached a high school girls varsity soccer team for 2 years in Pembroke where I built the program from scratch by recruiting many girls from other sport teams within the high school. They enjoyed playing soccer and so much that some of the girls are currently coaching their siblings in recreational soccer.

When I moved to Raleigh, I became involved in Club Soccer at Triangle United in Chapel Hill; where I am the head coach for a local U-17 Challenge Team..
Currently, I teach Physical Education for Grades (K-7) at Triangle Math & Science Academy; I have also taught Kindergarten for a couple of years.

Soccer Scholarship to St. Andrews Presbyterian College, August 2004- May 2008
Varsity Soccer Coach at Purnell Swett High School 2008-2010
Head Coach at Triangle United Club Girls U-17 2010-2012
Soccer Referee for Triangle Area 2012
Coach Up Soccer Personal Trainer 2013-...

1 hour- work on fundamentals of the game:
-dribbling- athlete will understand how to dribble with the inside and outside of their foot to fully understand how to control the ball. (no kicking and chasing the ball)
-trapping- athlete will practice locking their ankle and measuring where to trap the ball on impact for great control and depth
-foot skills- athlete will practice (or learn) the step over, pull back, scissors, fake, ... to get away from their opponents.
-aggressiveness- I will create fun game activities for athletes to learn how to be more aggressive and be the first one to the ball.

Client Reviews

Coach Jamie was great. Easy to work with and my son seems to be learning a lot so far. Recommended.

Coach Jamie has been fantastic with our daughter. We noticed improvement after the 1st session. We will certainly continue to work with Coach Jamie.

Jamie is a breath of fresh air. She takes he time and shows the kids why things are done a certain way other than saying just do it. My daughter was happy after practice even though Jamie had some constructive criticism of her skills. Jamie made my daughter know that we are going to get you to your goals. She also explained to her the dynamics of what coaches look for in a starting player, and how you should practice.

Thanks Jamie

The kids are so excited to learn soccer from you. Their self confidence is already building. Thanks!

Coach Jamie G. is truly excellent in every aspect of soccer instruction. As a trained educator, she can teach the sport better than any other instructor I have ever worked with (and I have had lessons from some big names.)

It is rare to encounter a soccer coach who knows how to play, but more importantly, how to teach.

The problem with many excellent/superstar players is that they can naturally do the sport, but these instructors do not necessarily understand how they themselves are able to perform these spectacular feats; and so they are not always the best teachers. Such instructors can often demonstrate a technique, beautifully executed, to the student, but that way of teaching leads to very slow progress because most coaches do not know how to individualize their instruction to the student. But this is where Coach Jamie excels: her ability to teach the game is, in my experience, without equal.

By way of contrast, Coach Jamie effectively teaches proper execution by closely observing the the student's biomechanics and providing feedback—at a superbly well-calibrated register of motivation—that is tailored to the individual player. While most coaches will give advice, they seem to give the same generalized advice to everybody ("strike the ball with your instep"). Coach Jamie personalizes her lessons to correct the students' deficiencies while at the same time considering their abilities and aspirations with compassion, grit, and respect.

I am a lower-level-intermediate adult player, and in my experience, she is the best there is.

Thanks Jamie you are correct. She does need confidence! The skills you are working on are great and what she needs.

Coach Jamie is willing to work with our daughter with consideration of her inexperience and specific learning needs.

So far my daughter has had 3 sessions and coach Jamie has been great. She has proficient skills in the sport of soccer and it truly shows through her coaching techniques. She is willing to work around your schedule and her response to your concerns or needs are answered fairly quickly. I would highly recommend her .
Sharon from Havelock, NC

Very patient and warm to my child. She made the session fun with great energy!

Coach Jamie is very knowledgeable and patient in helping my daughter with her soccer skills. They work well together and I have seen great progress. Jamie was able to identify areas of development during the first session and began working on those right away, as well as highlighting skills my daughter already possesses. I highly recommend her approach to teaching soccer skills.

Jamie was great with Blake.
She was early to our meeting and took the time to discuss the instructional period with Blake and me.
It shows that she is a true professional soccer player and teacher.
She was very patience with Blake with his special needs.
We are very excited about our next training sessions.
I would strongly recommend Jamie for anyone who has a child wanting to improve their game and technique.
