More About Coach Jamel
I’ve been coaching and playing basketball nearly my whole life (as well as football - my father played professionally and owned a fitness facility early on in my life). Graduated from Mitchell High School in 2015, having played 4 years varsity and led my team to the playoffs Jr. & Sr. season. I played college for a total of 1 year at Adams State University but continued my career through back routes to move forward. During my semi pro basketball run (2018-2021) I coached at Adams City High School as the asst./c-team coach in 2018-2019. In 2021 I traveled to Mexico where I won MVP and led my team to an undefeated championship. From there I was invited to play in an NBA Skills Clinic hosted in Detroit, MI by former overseas pro & NBA players. In 2022 I made my appearance in the TBL playing for the Bakersfield Magic, however the team fell out due to financial issues. Throughout my semi pro and professional career, I have mentored and physically trained basketball athletes from the ages of 10 all the way through college independently. I now own my own business and am building a future as a player mentor/mentor trainer, as I aspire to run my own basketball academy in the near future! When working out with Jamel “Showtime” Jones, the client can expect the “S.H.O.W.T.I.M.E. “ workout structure:
S - “Stretch/Start the Day”
H - “How are you feeling?” (Questions/conversation, daily check-in).
O - “OUR” daily routines (changes day to day based on player’s needs).
W - “Warm-up” & then, “Water” all throughout the session. Proper hydration fuels high-level performance!
T - “Tempo” - Lets TEST our skills, push the pace, get that game feel to expand our abilities here!
I - Intentional Training - “What do I feel I need to work on in my game? What do I want to add into MY game?” Works hand-in-hand with “Tempo.” Detail orientation is the focus during this portion of the workout.
M - “Make it yours.” In other words, bag time. This is the portion of the process when you focus into what you personally want to add into your game, and attack it ruthlessly. At this time, we focus on mastering our game through high-volume, high-quality & focused reps, mixed in with a little personal touch…
E - “End it on a good note.” Make your last shot(s) in a row. Swishes only, no rim touches. Dunk it, clean flushes only. Put an exclamation point on the day with our final drills and nutritional instructions!
