More About Coach Jake

I began my coaching experience as an assistant coach of the Brandeis Men's soccer team immediately upon graduating in 2016. During the one year as an assistant coach, I was responsible for constructing fluid practice agendas with the coaching staff and organizing smaller group sessions for players that needed more development. The coaching staff lead the team to a NCAA Final Four appearrance, one of the best season finishes in school history. After one year as an assistant coach, the Athletic Department appointed me as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, the first in the university's history. In this role, I programmed and lead inseason and offseason training sessions for all varsity teams at Brandeis University, allowing me to develop at exponential rates as I was working with athletes with varioius sport demands. During the summer months, I also served as the strength and conditioing coach for The Pro Project, a local start up focused on providing comprehensive skill and strength training to youth soccer players in the Greater Boston area. I constructed an 8 week long intensive program focused on exposing youth soccer athletes to the fundamentals of strength training as well as speed and agility.

I have acquired my CPT from NASM and CSCS from NSCA, as well as a Master's of Exercise Science from Northeastern University.

I was a four year started and senior captain of the Brandeis Men's Soccer team. Specifically, I played center midfield. On a team level, we were crowned conference champions twice (2012 and 2015) and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 three out of the four years and Elite 8 one year. On an individual level, I earned team MVP three out of my four years, Rookie of the Year, All Conference and All Region Selection my junior and senior years, and selected as the University's top male student athlete.

A typical training session would always begin with a dynamic warmup similar to a RAMP format. Exercises in the warmup would include side shuffling, walking lunges, lateral lunges, single leg deadlifts for dynamic stretches, then would progress to more technique focuses exercises, such as A skips, B skips, bounding, lateral skaters, and so on. After finishing the dynamic warmup, the next portion of the session would be conditioning/fitness oriented. This could be longer interval runs, such as 200 or 300 m repeats, or various cone drills focusing on acceleration, deceleration, and changing direction. The focus would depend on the current week microcycle. Next, we would move on to the skill section of the training. We would start with simpler drills and work on both feet, then move to passing drills, and finally, end with some challenge that brings out the competitive edge in the player. For example, this could involve setting up targets in the goal and setting a baseline that the player must hit the target at least 12 out of his/her 20 shots. If not, there would be some small conditioning consequence. Lastly, we would close out the training session with a cool down and static stretches.

We are very pleased with the coaching lessons provided to our 8 year old grandson. He quickly established a rapport. His coaching is providing excellent skills, is engaging, and above all our grandson finds it fun and he’s looking forward to the next lesson. Coach Jake is very skilled, with lessons focused on increasing skills with each session. He is providing the skills to increase speed and agility on the field. He is open to receiving feedback on performance and designing lessons based on skills needed to progress.

Coach Jake is helping Max focus on the fundamentals and building his confidence and competitive drive. We just started but so far, Max is excited to go work out with him.

Great session

Was very cool and chill. He also explained things very well. I had fun!

Jake has been fantastic to work with. My son enjoys the sessions. He’s working hard and also Jake has given him some drills that he can do on his own. I’m sure that we will continue to work with Jake for a while.

Coach Jake was awesome. He worked with my daughter to develop some skills and is working with us to develop a training plan for her in the off-season. Jake is accessible and friendly and worked around our schedule to find the time that worked for us. We will be scheduling more workouts our daughter and Jake in the future.
