More About Coach Jake

Full time trainer with 10+ years of experience and 5+ years of private training experience. Former NCAA Men's D3 college assistant. Spent time working with the DC United U23 team and with Coerver Coaching. Club coaching experience at various ages.

Degree in Kinesiology, Psychology and Coaching. Experience working with a strength and conditioning company helping youth athletes to improve Speed and Agility, balance, and strength.

Led high school team in scoring for 3 years in a row and earned All-Conference. Played at University of Northwestern Ohio (a top 25 NAIA program) before transferring to NCAA Division III Eastern Mennonite University, where I led the conference in game-winning goals, finished 4th in the conference in points (goals+assists), earned All-Conference, and was team captain senior year.

Session plans typically focus on one skill set or game situation. Players begin learning and implementing proper technique of skills without pressure, and progressively have more pressure and variables added, while incorporating other skills on each end of the focus. (For example, passing technique would build into receiving and transitioning into the pass while maintaining technique.)

In many cases, I have observed private training being lots of repetitions without players understanding how the exercise they are doing applies to the game. Repetition can be helpful for learning new skills and solidifying technique, but players often struggle to carry skills into full-speed, game situations, especially if the context is left out of training.

My training philosophy aims to enable players develop and refine skills with the understanding of where, when, and why - teaching not only skills, but situational awareness of how their actions fit into the bigger context of the game, and to help players internalize coaching and movement patterns so they can execute what they learn in games without conscious effort.

From the first session and on, Jake has helped my son (rising U10) tremendously by tailoring sessions based on my son’s goals, strengths, and growth areas. He also provides really great notes after each session to outline what they worked on, how my son is improving, what my son needs to work on, and homework. Jake is an awesome coach through and through, and my son really enjoys working with him.

Coach Jake brings all the energy to his sessions! Our first session he spent time asking not only what I wanted for my daughter to achieve from these sessions, but he also talked with my daughter to see what her goals were as well. I am a realistic parent and her goals are ambitious for her, but I feel Coach Jake will be able to get her really close to it. He did a great job communicating the drills, skills, and corrections to my 12 year old in a way for her to understand and quickly implement. My daughter said Coach Jake was awesome and a super nice Coach. She looks forward to working with him the rest of the year!

Coach Jake is where it’s at! My 9 yr old wanted to up his game and wasn’t taking instruction from me very seriously. 1 session with Jake and my son’s response was, “This is a game-changer.” Some things I’ve tried to show him for a year were met with comments like, “OOOH! That’s what locking my ankle means!”

Jake is very attentive to every detail and movement while also being direct and kind in his guidance.

100% recommend.

I'm very happy with couch Jake. He gets most of the practice time very easy going , but intense too.
He is patient and also motivates the player. He is focus on the drills with no distractions. He makes most of the hour very worthy. I defenetly would recommend you coach Jake

Jake was great to work with - we were visiting the area for a week and he put together two great sessions for my 7 and 9 year old boys. The combo of 'fun' and more technical work was a great balance that really got them engaged - and each walked away with some new skills and ideas. Jake's style and ability made him a great fit. Quick reply and effective communications made it easy as well.
Thanks Jake!

Awesome job! My boys had fun and enjoyed the session. They will continue working with Jake!

The drills, the intensity, the desire to exceed and the attention to detail during training sessions is what makes it different. Just top notch stuff. Grateful to be a part of it!
