More About Coach Jake

I just completed my first season as an assistant at the college level. Prior to that, I spent time working with the DC United U23 team and with Coerver Coaching. I also coached club teams through my last 3 years of college during my offseasons. New to CoachUp, but I have been doing individual and small group training for almost 2 years now.

Finishing my US Soccer D License certification this winter. I graduated with a Degree in Kinesiology and Coaching. Spent time working at Next Level Athletic Development, where I worked with high school and college athletes to develop Speed and Agility, balance, and strength.

I led my high school team in scoring for 3 years in a row, and was an All-Conference player. I went on to play in college at the University of Northwestern Ohio (a consistent top 25 NAIA program) before transferring to NCAA Division III Eastern Mennonite University, where I led the conference in game-winning goals, finished 4th in the conference in points (goals+assists), and was selected an All-Conference player before finishing my career.

I try to be as efficient as possible with my sessions. All sessions are based on developing one skill set or game situation. I use a progressive buildup that begins with players getting tons of repetitions and hammering proper technique without pressure. The goal here is to get as many touches on the ball as possible. From there, we increase the difficulty by increasing speed of play or by adding more decisions or distractions. Defensive pressure is also added when appropriate. Speed and Agility training can also be incorporated into exercises upon request.

I run my sessions with the goal of making the transition of the techniques from training to games as seamless as possible. In many cases, private training ends up being lots of repetitions and getting more touches. Repetition can be helpful for learning new skills and refining technique, but players often struggle to carry skills into full-speed, game situations. My training philosophy aims to help players develop and refine skills they can effortlessly use in games.

Coach Jake is a great coach. He is very personable, skilled and has a lot of experience with training. Jake develops specific training programs to cater to each of his clients’ needs. Jake was great to work with - we were visiting the area for a week and he put together two great sessions for my 7 and 9 year old boys.
