More About Coach Ian

I have never officially coached before, but I have always felt that I have a talent for it. I believe I can work with any age group and any level of lacrosse and help them become more successful. I know what it takes to be a good coach and I know what it takes to take it to the next level. If you take a chance on me, I promise you will not regret it.

I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of high school at a small school in Florida. I tried out for the JV team, but did not make it. I decided that I would never play for the JV team, and in my sophomore season I would go straight to varsity. I switched positions and started playing for the local U-15 team. I practiced with the JV team whenever I could and did everything in my power to get better. In my sophomore year I made varsity, and I started every game at close defense. That year I won an award for leadership and the most improved player. I started in every game during high school, and in my junior season my team and I went to the sweet 16, the farthest our lacrosse team had ever gotten after beating our regional rivals. After my senior season I decided to continue my college career and play for a junior college called CCBC Essex in Maryland. I started every game during my year and a half there. I committed to Queens university after my sophomore season was cut short due to covid. During that summer and fall before this spring season, I took my game to the next level by working with movement and footwork trainers in order to hone my technique, something that I had been lacking. I am currently at Queens university and I will be entering my senior season next year. I have trained extensively with the top of the line footwork and movement coaches on my own including GoldFeet Global in Davie, Florida as well as F1 performance and the Jay Dyer facility in Maryland.

First we will start with a track-style dynamic warm up. We will then do a quick ladder progression and then move into stick work that will involve general passing and catching and then more of a focus on weaknesses and learning new skills. This will be done stagnant and then on the move. After we will move onto shooting with both hands to continue warming up. Shooting will be stagnant during this portion. This warm up session will be the same across all sessions and will be done more swiftly as we do more sessions and mastery of the technique is obtained for the various movements. At the conclusion of the warm up we will move into more position specific work. First we will start with movement drills, focusing on footwork and technique. This portion can be with or without the stick, and there will be a small portion of this working on techniques that will be from the opposite position to make the client to become more of a complete player. Afterwards, we will work with more specific things, like checking for defense and dodging and shooting for offense. Finally, we will put it all together. I will don my pads and play some 1v1, either in a live or "dummy" situation. I will play both offense and defense depending on the client, and sometimes I will play both. Finally, we will do a cool down. Throughout the session there will be frequent water breaks, and sometimes some sessions may be changed according to the client. I want to focus on mastery of technique and movement as I feel these are factors not completely addressed all the time and I feel there are important to create a more complete lacrosse player.
I am focused on creating a more complete lacrosse player and a more personalized approach. I want to get a lot done with the client. I am a relaxed person, but on the field I am going to push you or your son/daughter. I will provide all of the balls and necessary equipment. Show up with a lot of water, all of your gear, and a good attitude and we will get better!
