More About Coach Helen

I have been involved in college athletics for over 25 years. My coaching stops include Lenoir-Rhyne University, Wake Forest University, University of South Florida, Western Michigan University, US Naval Academy, Princeton University, and Head Coach at Merrimack College. Presently I work in athletic administration at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I also do consulting with AAU teams.

I am the author of "Coach Like a Mother, A Guide For The 21st Century Sports Coach" and continue to be involved in athletics because of my belief in building education through sport, using it to develop the future leaders of our country.

I am also a color analyst for men’s and women’s college basketball.

Typically I put an athlete through some basic drills so that I can see how they move, what type of athletic coordination they have. Then I put them through more specific drills to determine their skill level. I like to spend time talking with my clients about what their concerns, needs, and goals are. We then come to a mutual agreement as to how often we work out and what they want to focus on improving. From there I develop a plan based on that agreement.

Client Reviews

I only had one session with Helen and do not feel qualified to rate her.

Coach Helen was very helpful when coaching my daughter Maya.

Coach Williams does an outstanding job of teaching the sport of basketball to the players in her charge. Her ability to communicate with players is second to none. Coaches at most camps and clinics run players through drills and skills without paying any particular attention to the players' understanding and proper execution of the skill. With Coach Williams, she can recognize a weakness or a flaw and correct it right on the spot. You may not do it right the first time, or even the second time, but with hard work, any player will see a dramatic improvement in her game after working with Coach Williams. Coach Williams can work with any player. From the recreational player that never picked up a basketball to a Division 1 college recruit, Coach Williams can be both patient and demanding at the same time.
