More About Coach Glen

I created Buckets Academy in 2010, and since its creation, I have trained over 100 kids in the sport of basketball. My style of training is innovative and fun, but certainly effective. Every year, Buckets Academy is lucky enough to have students go on to play in the NCAA Division 1 collegiate realm. Several of my students have been fortunate enough to build professional careers in basketball. As a coach and leader, I make special efforts to mentor my students so that principles stemming from the basketball world can be extended to their own lives and future success.

As a freshman in high school, I started off as a Point Guard, at a height of 5'9." By my senior year in high school, I had played all five positions before settling into the Small Forward position at 6'8." I was ranked amongst the top 50 players in the country and 4th in the state of California for the Small Forward position. As a senior year in high school, I attended a nationally ranked (ranked #7) Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. I went on to receive a full-ride scholarship at Pepperdine University. During my stint at Pepperdine University, we won the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship which allowed us to attend the NCAA tournament. While a sophomore at Pepperdine University, I received WCC Honorable Mention. As a junior, I led the WCC in scoring (averaged 17.8 points/game) and earned First Team All-WCC Honors. As a senior, I came in second in scoring (averaged 19.2 points/game) and earned First Team All-WCC Honors. Some highlights from my collegiate career consist of, scoring 29 points in upset win over Wisconsin, registering 26 points and 12 rebounds at California, tallying 27 points and 13 rebounds vs. UNLV, and a career-high of 36 points at Maryland. I finished my Pepperdine career as 17th All-Time Leading Scorer in Pepperdine school history. During my senior year at Pepperdine University, I was projected to go second round in the NBA Draft, however, I went undrafted. I decided to take my talents overseas. The highlights of my professional basketball career include two European Championships (German League & Belgium League). While in the German League, I led my team in scoring and was voted co-MVP. I also participated in the FIBA Euro Cup, where I competed against teams across Europe, averaging 20.4 points/game. I was also fortunate to play in Turkey, Italy, Sicily, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, South Korea, China, as well as a Player Ambassador for the NBA Development World Games.

The first session involves a Player Assessment. I take a personalized approach to each player, catering to his/her specific level and understanding of the game. The Skill Set component of my initial Player’s Assessment consists of drills involving shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense. The Performance component consists of drills that measure speed, quickness, balance, footwork, agility, flexibility, strength, and power. The last component takes a measure of the player’s Basketball IQ and understanding of basketball terminology. From the information gathered, I put together a personalized basketball training schedule. I take a dynamic approach to basketball training with a goal of strengthening each player’s weaknesses. However, my primary objective is to discover the player’s specialty and cultivate that skill to make it that player’s expertise. Every month, I conduct a Player’s Assessment (which I share with the player and the parents) to mark each player’s development and make adjustments to my training approach as needed.
