More About Coach Gillian
I have primarily coached youth sports. I was a swim coach for 3 years, coaching kids ages 5-18, and I coached U7 and U8 girls soccer for two years.
I played center forward at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a D3 program in which I broke four school records (including most goals), I was inducted into the college’s Hall of Fame last year, was a two-time Player of the Year for the conference, first team All-South Atlantic Region, and nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year. I served as team captain for two years. I accomplished these goals following a freshman year ACL tear, so I am happy to work with players in recovery or college students preparing for pre-season.
A session plan will depend on the client, but a few general areas of focus could include:
- Movement on and off the ball and strategic gameplay (positioning, runs, etc)
- Technique for passing and finishing
- Ball skills
Depending on the needs/position of the client, I would likely run a player through some skill based drills to get touches on the ball and try new things, then I would do position-focused drills (ie more shooting for forwards), and wind down a session with more strategic drills that help a player learn where to move on and off the ball. I am also keen to make sure these sessions are fun and a comfortable learning environment.
