I have been playing soccer both competitively and recreationally for almost 30 years now. Growing up I learned to play on the streets and in the yard mostly. I got to train at a club in Guadalajara, Mexico called Atlas and eventually moved to San Diego and played with clubs like Nomads, and Rebels. I went on to play high school soccer at Mar Vista High and then at community college at Southwestern college and San Diego City College. I played a bit of semi pro soccer but I them discovered my passion for coaching and the dream of playing pro shifted to the dream of coaching pro or college.
I start off by getting to know the player. I do like a Q & A on things like their favorites (player,team,position) or on their soccer likes and dislikes or on why they play or what goals they have. Anything to better understand the player and to help tailor a unique and individual training session for them. For older ages I do dynamic stretching as opposed to static stretching to warm up then the session will depend on what I previously prepared with a specific focus or topic. Mainly I do coordination drills, footwork drills, technique and form. For the little ones ages 4-7, I make it super silly and exciting with a focus on developing the basics in a fun environment with games and activities as opposed to "drills".

What a knowledgeable coach. Properly learning as an adult is hard enough. Coach Giancarlo walked me through drills and foot positioning to get me comfortable. He’s quick to see what aspects I personally caught onto quickly and which needed some extra time. But once I caught on, we were on to the next lesson. A good pace left us time to cover so much and take plenty of water breaks.
During our water breaks we talked about what we just learned and how that can be leveraged in game time situations. He also asked about me and my goals for the sessions to ensure he went over everything.
