More About Coach Gerardo

I’ve been coaching for about 6 years now, either private session, camps, youth teams, etc. I’ve also trained a few professional footballers and college athletes. My whole life growing up I’ve been an athlete, I've been playing soccer since I was about 4 years old. I was involved in a D1 college program at Loyola Marymount University as well as a professional environment with Rochester New York. Once you reach the professional level you quickly learn that you have to approach everything with the right mindset. This will help you grow as a player and separate you from the rest.
I began my journey playing in a Sunday league and worked my way up to club soccer, eventually I joined the academy level with a few teams in Southern California. At the academy level, I played for LA Galaxy academy , Chivas USA academy, Nomads SC, & Portland Timbers academy.

Although I don’t have several years of coaching, I do have experiences I lived and it is something I can pass down to the youth. I’ve ran sessions for D1 and D2 college athletes whenever they were in off-season. Players from Cal Baptist University, Loyola Marymount University, Cal Poly Pomona, and a few others. I currently work with a professional footballer that has played in Mexico with Chivas de Guadalajara and has also played in the lower leagues of the United States like Phoenix Rising and a few others. I have worked in LMU camps coaching the youth, club team in Torrance called South Bay, and currently help out with my nieces team which are girls u10 AYSO Extra. I mainly focus on one-on-one training and small group trainings. I’ve mostly worked with kids but I have coached people from all ages.

Like I stated before, I reached the professional level right after I finished my four years playing D1 soccer with Loyola Marymount University. Throughout my four years I've had a number of individual and team accomplishments. For example, I was elected for the Mac Herman Trophy watchlist, I won the defender of the year award for our conference, I was included in the first-team regional team as well as the the top-drawer first team, and a few other awards I have not mentioned. I was on trial with a few MLS teams like LA Galaxy, LAFC, and Real Salt Lake. Unfortunately those trials did not go as planned but definitely got a lot of take-aways. I have experience playing professionally in NISA and MLSNextPro. I also took part for a season with the second team of Xolos de Tijuana who are from Mexico.

I confidently can say that I can help improve a number of things for my clients like, ball control, dribbling, passing, speed, agility, fitness, awareness, strengthening, etc. It usually depends on what I work on with my client. I typically ask them if there is something specifically they will like to work on. If not it is usually just for extra training in which I focus on mainly on technical, passing, dribbling, and agility. For a one-on-one sessions, my training consists of 1 hour, for group trainings they usually consists of 75 to 90 minutes. I start my session with dynamic warmup which consist of 5-10 minutes. Then it will go into a technical passing warm up to get comfortable and some touches on the ball. From there I would include some agility plus dribbling drills which I focus on speed and intensity. Finally, I like to do intense passing/shooting drills usually going to goal if it is accessible. I like to work on game specific scenarios with my clients depending on their position.
