More About Coach Gary

I am a retired Navy SEAL/Frogman and Navy Bomb Disposal Technician. I have now been coaching in a variety of sports for the last 15 years, specifically football, soccer, cycling and strength and conditioning.

Currently, I am focusing on elevating high school athletes to reach the next level in their athletic careers through the use of the SEAL physical fitness test—which I call Frogman Fitness. I am using the curriculum that has prepared the elite fighting force in the world, the Navy SEALS, as a basis for athletic excellence. In this area, I coach a team of high school boys for the annual SEAL Invitational - the 1st year they took 1st, last year the 2nd year they finished second by only 15 feet.

I can also provide private lessons in soccer and cycling as I hold for soccer the NSCAA National Diploma Certificate, National Youth Diploma and USSF "D" License as well as their National Youth License. For cycling I am USA Cycling coach and a League of American Bicyclist Lead Cycling Instructor. Have coached girls competitive soccer for over 11 years, currently the Head Varsity Ladies Soccer Coach at a high school

Competitive swimmer from the age of 5 to 15
Played Football in High School
At the United States Naval Academy Played Varsity 150 pound football my freshman and senior years. Also played club water polo and boxed.
Going through Basic Underwater Demolition/Seal (BUD/S) I was always top in my class for doing push-ups (125 in 2 minutes), situps (100+ in two minutes) the 500 yard swim (8:00 minutes or less) and the 1 1/2 run (always right around 8:05 minutes).
As a Navy Frogman was a combat swimmer and top athlete in my team.

In all cases the 1st session will be an assessment of the athletes ability in the respective sport. For example if the athlete intends to learn and improve with overall athleticism through the use of the SEAL Challenge then we would go through the SEAL Challenge:
500 yard swim as fast as you can go - 10 minute break
As Many pushups in 2 minutes as possible
As many sit-ups in 2 minutes as possible
As many pull ups not time limit
1 1/2 as fast as you can go

If it were a soccer player I base my assessment on the standard set by the University of North Carolina with some of the same type of physical fitness testing:
Situps in one minute
Pushups in one minute
Pull ups no time limit
20 yard technical test
40 yard agility test
Coopers Test
300 yard shuttle run
These are all done over a course of several sessions, soccer related tests would include the amount of juggling in a 60 second period as well as a passing and turning test.
In all cases I like conducting an assessment to identify where the athlete is and go from there.
