After taking the summer off from soccer, we were in need of a private soccer coach to get my 9 year old goalkeeper ready for a special upcoming tryout. I had never heard of CoachUp before but I decided I would send a message to see what happens. I received many replies from different coaches. I chose Coach Eugene because of his prompt and meaningful messages. I got the feeling that his coaching style would be very similar to the private lessons we had taken in the past from coaches at our home club. Coach Eugene was available when we needed him to be. Coach Eugene not only met my expectations of our first session but he exceeded them! Coach Eugene is organized, efficient, effective, experienced and driven. I am so happy that I found him. Coach Eugene was able to get and keep my son working his butt off for the entire hour and they both put in 110% effort into the session. Coach Eugene worked on agility, endurance, footwork and distribution which is exactly what my son needed. Afterwards, I even received a feedback note. We are looking forward to our next sessions. Eugene didn’t ask any questions before the training session. Nothing about goals or skill level.
He didn’t say anything bad to my son but his tone was very condescending. This put my son in a bad mental space. My son has never reacted so negatively to any coaching experience besides this one. He’s always been one of the favorites of any coach because normally he thrives and works hard with encouragement. My son has enjoyed soccer for 4 years, but walked away from his training session like he hated soccer.
This coach is not for everyone.

After the session, my son said he never had a more intense session like this, and he has been playing soccer for 11 years through progressive levels, going to SCCL in fall 2021.
