More About Coach Ella

I am currently coaching athletes one on one, and am also doing group and team sessions for high schoolers. I do technical coaching for all the athletes I coach. I also did coached during undergrad while I was playing NCAA for middle schoolers, and I coached soccer, lacrosse, and conditioning.
I've coached ages 10 to 18 working in private facilities and for the local high school club. I am a USAL member as a coach and am working on the Grade 1 certification. I prefer to work with ages 12 and up.

I played both soccer and lacrosse (soccer during the fall, lacrosse during the spring, one week off in between) at the DIII NCAA level, as well as DII level club during graduate school. I played midfield in both sports; in soccer, I spent more time attacking, shooting, and crossing, and in lacrosse, I played defense as well as midi, and sometimes attack. My senior season I was named SCAC All-Conference First Team for Lacrosse (2018--2019 season). I coached and worked athletic tournaments in both sports starting in undergrad and continuing now into postgrad. I am coaching technical training for a local high school, a trainer for an indoor sports academy, and I do one on one and group lessons.

A typical first session involves me watching and identifying the level the athlete is at (if they haven't told me first). After that is established, practices start with two laps (jogging) and then going into dynamics, followed by partner passing (switching hands) and into shuttles (also including long balls and ground balls). These are all done with me for one on one sessions.
After that, I would start a ground ball drill where I have the player facing backwards, blow the whistle, and then have them focus on explosion time and running through the ground balls.
After ground ball work, I'd run through box drills for footwork and stickwork, including focusing on certain dodges. This would be an attack focused drill where we would end in either levels, rolling the crease, or fakes and a shot.
For defense, I'd work on legal defense, avoiding shooting space, explosion and reaction time on defending 8s, and not extending the stick on body. Defense footwork and agility would be practiced here by adapting the box drill for defensive strategy.
Then would come the conditioning and agility part of the practice, where athletes would focus on ladders, first with just with feet and later with the ball and stick, following with a sprint to increase explosion power. Lastly, I'd set up cones for sprinting back and forth, or set a run sprint the long distance of the field and jog the short ends, to work on fitness. Cool down and stretching would end the practice.

Client Reviews

Ella is an incredible athlete and an amazing coach--she's got a lot of experience as a player on the field and as a coach/technical trainer. She was known for her encouragement both on and off the field. I loved having her as a teammate and as a fellow coach, and am excited for her coaching career! --Former Teammate, The University of Dallas
