More About Coach Douglas
I grew up playing basketball competitively since age 7. I was a starting shooting guard on the top teams all through Jr. high and high school, also starting on the traveling all-star teams during off season which consisted if the best players on the west coast (California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Arizona). I coached high school kids and was an instructor for Larry Steele Basketball Camp in Portland Oregon. You not only had to perform well one on one but you needed to have knowledge of the game itself not just raw talent due to the fact we were training paying kids who slept in the portables and lived on the University of Portland Campus for the entire camp duration (at the time I was barely older the the senior group).
I have not played in years (competitively but the extensive training I received as well as taught will never be something that will go away. In fact the longer I do this the more things I will recall. My primary focuses will be fundamentals in general. Defense is something that takes work and dedication and you cannot be a good defender without working hard. Conditioning (which I will participate as much as possible in to get in shape:) is key for basketball players for obvious reasons. Everyone likes to shoot. Shooting is my strength. I may not be what I use to be but with a little time playing I will not only show you the proper techniques (holding the ball, follow through, extension of body arms, arc, shooting off of pivot, off of dribble, both hands, etc.)but if I can still shoot the same I held a few records in horse and once a week I will play a game on the last day of week where if you beat me in game of your choice, that day is free. If it isn't attainable I will think of something fun constructive and encouraging. With training and hard work you have to not only love the game but ou need to enjoy and have fun playing.
Training also depends on responsiveness and dedication of student. I will not waste my time and will let someone know if they are not taking things seriously then they should find someone else. I chose one of the lower prices because I feel that having a gym or establishment isn't always necessary. I will have one and my family out here plays sports year round and my NT works at Mililani High school. Some training will not even involve a basketball hoop. I learned from some of the best coaches on the west coast and I did at times question days of practice until I realized the actual skills I was being taught without even knowing.
