More About Coach DeShar

I have been coaching elementary to teens since I was in college and while I was playing professional basketball. I have played basketball in almost every league in America (ABA,IBL,UBA,ABL,D-league,ESL-Eurobasket Summer League, etc) to playing professional in Germany and Austria. I have trained other professional athletes helping become of a better all-around player - showing them the mental approach to becoming a better professional with practice, work ethics and eating habits to be able to perform at the highest level on a constant basis without flaw. All my kids I train I implement the value and respect, first and foremost, for playing this sport but also as an art and something to be loved and respected at the same time. Giving your all every play not only physically but being in the moment mentally by training your mind so that when you get tired or your body starts to fail you, your mind can carry the load of the game and pace. Basketball is and can be everything to a child or adult - a sanctuary between those lines, a barrier for those you don't want in your space so you can relax or to pound that ball hard on the hardwood because your angry it will never treat you wrong or judge you. You can lean on basketball and it will always be your crutch without telling you your putting to much pressure on it.

Respect, heart, passion, and love is all basketball will ask for from you - this is what coaching is all about for me. Not just teaching how to dunk or do the Allen Iverson crossover but fundamentals that give you the edge. When every player on the court can do those things but knowing foot work will get you past him and separating the ball and man while your dribbling so that you don't get ripped. Coming off the screens properly so you can catch and shoot with a great release and shoot a higher % from the field. All of this I define as "Passion Training"

“Passion Training” is the art of complete mental, physical, health together - balanced perfectly to create the ultimate formula to make the body and mind in sync and able to maximize the full workout and game time results without hang ups or over compensating for lack of balance within the mind and body. This training is my new formula of training and working out. I have used this in my career as a professional athlete. This is my Yin and Yang to the world of sports and fitness – full passion and dedication to each and every repetition or drill to drill from one day to the next.

During high school, I was ranked in California's SoCal Top 15 of Small Forwards. I played basketball in college at Moorpark. I have played semi-professional basketball in the United States in the ABA, UBA, IBL, and ABL. Most recently, I have played internationally in Austria and Germany.

I start with a evaluation by getting to know more about the athlete's goals - is this a dream you are chasing, just a love that they enjoy playing or its just something you like nothing more. I want to know who do you see yourself playing like when you close your eyes and see a perfect you as a hooper, who do you want to shoot like, who do you want to dribble like, who mentality do you like or dislike on the court as a professional athlete or college athlete and why? I ask these questions to better understand how each individual sees this game and art in their mind. Chase a dream isn't the same for every child, I like to treat and embrace every single child's individuality and allow that to flourish which allows me to develop a personal training workout that only will fit them instead of doing basic drills that you see on the internet or from other coaches. Because your child wants to shoot like Kobe doesn't mean I am going to show them the exact shot like Kobe shoots, I am going to help them develop the mentality that makes Kobe shoot the shots he does by grooming their thoughts as a fierce offensive juggernaut and show them why he shoot this shot and what type of mentality you have to allow your intuition to have and grow to make a move like that instead of just teaching the moves and being methodical with constant reps of the same moves he does. I want them to have their own flair about that same move but not to mimic it exactly which keeps their individuality intact and allows them to enjoy themselves and their approach to the sport.

My sessions are to allow the teaching in training to be transparent to life, to embrace yourself, to be happy, to be your own leader and continue to build on your foundation of life on and off the court. My training sessions are 1 hour and 30 minutes. Each session will begin with a warm-up followed by the selected components of training for the day. The session will wrap up with session summary and plan summary for work on your own until our next session. After each session a summary of the workout will be emailed to athlete and/or parent/guardian (if minor) including video clips of the workout and any tips, homework, and recommendations.

My training programs are more than just a physical workout. I train the mind, body and soul to achieve greatness on and off the court.
