Denton Lee
Baseball
As a player I focused on hitting gap to gap and swinging at good pitches and as a coach that’s what I push the most because I know players want results and that’s what gets them. View all coaching experience

More About Coach Denton
I was the head coach for the JV Baseball at Robert E Lee Academy in Bishopville, SC. In our best season we won all but one game, most games were ended by the 10 run rule, though my simple but very productive hitting approach. I also helped develop new players who had seen very little of the baseball field into productive players which helped them advance to the varsity team with the ability to contribute there as well. I also assisted with hitting on the Varsity team at Robert E Lee where we went to the state championship game. I have experience with private lessons with middle school and high school players where I've helped them with the mental, spiritual, and physical approach to hitting. I've had a lot of success with private lesson because of my non-cookie cutter approach, I understand every player is different and needs to be taught and instructed differently.
I started playing baseball when I was four years old and enjoyed playing and learning the game for eighteen years. I’ve had some good coaches along the way and spent a lot of time learning from them and from watching and studying my favorites in the professional league. In high school I was the AA MVP when I played for REL. I played first base and hit third for them in my senior year and we went on in that season to win the State championship where I hit a grand slam in the last inning to win the final game of the championship. Because of my high school and legion ball seasons I got offered a scholarship to play at Frances Marion University where I was recruited as a first baseman but mainly for the way I swung the bat. I’ve worked and studied a lot of swings to figure out one of the best ways to hit the baseball consistently with power.
1. Warm up
- dynamic stretching
- foam rolling
- sprints/explosive movements
2. Mental game prep
- talk about approach to the game
- meditate on the game
- have the player visualize himself hitting
- talk about game anxiety
3. performance
- the swing I teach is broken down into 4 steps
Step 1 - tuck - you take your bottom hand and tuck in into your armpit
step 2 - knee to knee - you take you front knee to your back knee then your back knee follows your front knee
step 3 - rotation - this is the most important part of the swing, this how we get the bat head though the zone effectively.
Its all created by the elbow, we keep a bent high elbow and we rotate it through the zone.
step 4 - finish - the finsh of the swing needs to be high and long.
The way we work on this swing is on the tee, front toss and live BP. The reason we focus on these 3 things is because I believe these are the 3 best ways to simulate a game and we know that the best way to be a better in game hitter is through getting as much exposure to a real game as possible.
After all of this is completed, we would end the session by talking about the players next game and things the player can do to improve his game every single day.
