More About Coach Deanna

I began training athletes three years ago. From there I began coaching the varsity girl's and middle school girl's basketball teams at Bethel Christian Schools in Riverside. Last spring I was offered a position to begin an AAU girl's program with the Aces Basketball Club. Lastly, after parting ways with the Lady Aces, I recently received a position to head a girl's AAU team with Premier Knights Academy in Corona, CA. I typically work with both middle and high school, and I do not currently have any industry certifications.

During my career at Norco High School, I was a four-year varsity letter winner. While at Norco, I received First-Team All-League selections for three years, and Honorable Mention for one year. I was team captain senior year.

After graduating from Norco, I received a full ride basketball scholarship to Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, CA. While at LMU I received an honorable mention award, as well as a second-team, and first-team all-conference selection. I was named captain for two of my four years.

I was recently inducted into the Norco High School Hall of Fame and while at LMU I became one of fourteen players in school history to score 1,000 points in her career.

A typical session with me will last between 60 and 90 minutes.
All workouts should begin with a warm-up, in which I walk the athlete through a dynamic warm up.

Depending on the level of the athlete, I like to spend 15-25 minutes on fundamental drills.
Some fundamental drills include:
The principles of 'triple threat', pivot foot, jab step, and keeping a strong off hand (or arm bar).
Ball slaps, fingertip dribbling, figure-8s, stationary dribbling (one and two ball), change of direction and misdirection moves (using cones).
Stationary change of direction dribble to one handed pass.
The Mikan Drill.
Form shooting

After working on the fundamentals, I like to move onto position-specific training.
Some drills include (depending on the position of the athlete):
Change of direction/misdirection move to pull-up jump shot,
Make a move and finish at the rim (with contact)
Different finishes at the rim
Shooting off of various screens / setting up screens
Catch and shoot practice
Rebound, put back drill

After position-specific training, I like to have athletes apply some things that were learned during the session (one-on-one, two-v-two, etc.) this is more effective in group settings.
