More About Coach David

I played college basketball at McKendree University. I have participated in three years of coaching at Mckendree University's basketball camps. I also ref at the Sportsplex in Bellevile, IL. I would like to train athletes and be a coach because I want to pass my love for the game onto other kids who love it as much as I do.

I had a lot of accomplishments in high school. It all started when I joined my first AAU team, the St. Louis Falcons. Playing AAU really gave me the better edge over my opponent because I trained all summer for my upcoming sophomore year. When my sophomore year came to a close I ended up averaging nine points and 6 rebounds a game. My junior year was another successful season because I ended up finishing the year by averaging 15 points and seven rebounds a game. When my Junior year ended I tried out for the St. Louis Eagles, who were ranked 10th in the nation of AAU teams. Out of 250 players who tried out, myself and another player were the only ones that made it. This team had very high standards. For instance, if you didn't dunk the basketball, you didn't play. Going into my senior year I was ready to dominate the competition. I ended up averaging 20 points and nine rebounds a game. I also was invited to two all-star games where I clinched the dunk contest trophy at the Cheifetz Arena in St. Louis. I earned MVP, four first team All-Tournament team awards, most rebounds, and blocked shots. My most prized possession to this date was when I joined the 1,000 point club. After high-school, I received a full ride basketball scholarship to Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC). There I averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds a game. I only stayed one year at LLCC because I received a full ride basketball scholarship to Mckendree University(McK). At the end of my time at McK, I ended up averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds a game. My coach Harry Statham, who has the most wins in basketball history in the NCAA, taught me not only about the game, but about life. He enhanced my game by showing me how to dominate my defender and punish him for going against me. Throughout my three years at Mckendree I coached and refereed the basketball camps that were held at our university. I participated in these camps because I wanted to teach kids and show them what it takes to be a great basketball player.

First, I would start out with five minutes of stretching. After stretching, I would have the athlete go through dribbling drills for the warm-up. For example, right hand dribble with head up, left hand dribble with head up, between the legs, behind the back, and the most difficult one of them all;the spider. After the dribbling drills I would cover defense. For example, defensive slides, snake pits, and how to close out on defenders. I would also teach them how to shadow defenders and show them how keeping your butt down is the key to defense. After defense I would go to rebounding. This would include boxing out, chinning the ball, and looking for your outlet to start the fast-break. The next step would be offense. This would include shooting drills such as, elbow jump shots, corner shots, and three point shots. I would show the athlete the correct form to shoot the ball. We would also do footwork drills such as, different drills with cones and if he/she was interested I would teach them how to successfully run a pick and roll. After every drill is completed I would have the athlete make ten free throws before moving onto the next drill.

Coach David is a fantastic mentor. He is encouraging and enthusiastic, and quite skilled in coaching. My son is already improving in his game after only a few sessions and he greatly appreciates Coach David's support.

My son was very pleased! Said he learned and worked harder than any practice he had on the school team this year. Very happy we signed up.

Coach David is Great! He's a very knowledgeable and engaging teacher of the game. More sessions to come, but a great start to Bailey's off-season training!

Fantastic workout with Coach Dave, as always. Intense, motivational, professional, good humor, knows his stuff and is serious about getting your game to the next level.

As always great to work with Coach David. My son has been to his camps before and his 1 on 1 is even better. Highly recommend him for all levels of coaching!

Coach Dave does a great job of pushing my 14 yr old son to do better. He has gotten stronger and more confident. He is definitely preparing him for high school ball physically and mentally.

Coach David really cares about your child's development in basketball. My son would hesitate to drive into the basket. Just in one session my son's confidence level was up. His next game he actually drove in the way Coach David taught him and scored off of the foul. He is so excited to work with him.

Thrilled with Coach David. My daughter (7th grade) shows significant improvement after just one session. He gave her a few keys to remove the hitch from her shot and drills/pointers she can use when practicing on her own. I highly recommend Coach David.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest people I've met. Coach David truly strengthens you in all aspects of playing basketball. I've learned not only just the skills and essentials for playing basketball, but I also became more compassionate for the game of basketball thanks to Coach David's sessions. Very cooperative and an understanding person!

Coach David is very knowledgeable of the game. He has been able to focus on the skills that my son needs. We plan to continue working with him.

We were looking for the program that will help Braden reach the next level. Coach David has that program.

David is a great motivator and relates very well to my son. The training sessions are quite intense at times, so they improve his conditioning as well as his skills. David does a good job of explaining the benefits of each drill and reinforcing proper form and methods. Overall it has been very beneficial to my son's confidence, abilities, and approach to the game. He really looks forward to the training.

From the basics to advanced moves Coach David kept the practice interesting and challenging. His understanding of body positioning, footwork, and correct technique combined with drills repeated until the move is second nature is the fastest path to excellence. David picks up on what needs improvement and offers tools to improve while improving existing skills in a way that builds confidence. Very smart coach, high energy, and an overall nice guy. Excellent opportunity, look forward to future practices - Thanks!

Have been working with David for the past few months and have seen significant improvement in confidence, skill, and enjoyment of the game. Was very impressed to see him come to watch a game during tournament to specifically assess what skill set to target in training. His training has helped more than an entire season of select ball at a fraction of the cost or time. Also she really enjoys the training as David explains in a way she easily understands and nothing motivates like seeing hard work turn into wins for your team. David is the real deal.

David's training was absolutely great. The drills we ran were similar to actual games. Not only did he work me to my core, he also gave me insight of what coach's expect out of players. I feel 10x better than before I first walked through the door. Thanks a ton!

hard work pays off when hard work is put in
I have had many compliments on my training sessions. Recently I had a 6th grader who wanted to make the team so bad. So he was willing to come out to the park to train with me and through all the sweat and hard work I got a phone call this week thanking me that he had made the team!
