More About Coach Daniel
I have extensive training as an individual skills development coach. I have coached athletes of all ages, ranging from as young as 6 all the way through college and professional players. I also have experience running clinics geared towards improving players in elementary, middle, and high school.
In high school I was a 3 year middlesex league all-star, including league MVP my senior season. I then went on to play on scholarship under coach Jay Lawson at Bentley University. In addition I played a year on scholarship under legendary coach Rollie Massimino at Northwood University. After my college career, I went on to play professionally in the NBL Canada for the Orangeville A’s.
My sessions are always geared towards the specific needs of the athlete, informed by the existing skills of the individual(s) that I am working with. Unless they come in asking for work in a specific area of their game (which I am always willing to provide), I typically like to dedicate the first session to evaluating the current level of the athlete by running them through some general skill drills. Then over time we work on honing these abilities in a way that is suitable to their playing style.
I, like many coaches, put an emphasis on shooting and ball handling, but where I differ is in helping athletes to understand rhythm, cadence, and how to conceptualize the game. This understanding is what allows a player to translate their hard-earned growth and newly developed skills into a tangible difference on the court.
I have played multiple positions at a high level throughout my life. As a result, I have a unique ability to assess a players strong or weak points and to work with them to maximize their capacity for success in basketball. With that said, the sort of success I aspire to help young athletes achieve reaches much further than the basketball court. My goal is to help young athletes build their confidence and competency when it comes to approaching any and all challenges in their life.
