More About Coach Corey

Having spent seven years playing baseball professionally within the Detroit Tigers organization, I have been fortunate to have been coached by some of the games greatest minds. People like Jim Leyland, Alan Trammell, and Lance Parrish have taught things about the game that I now want to pass to young baseball players. I have coached for multiple top tier youth travel baseball teams, as well as elite high school showcase teams in both the Orange County and San Diego areas. I have been hired to be an instructor at multiple college clinics and recruiting events. Currently, I am coaching with the Vista Baseball Academy where I work with hitters and infielders of all age levels.

I played seven years professionally within the Detroit Tigers organization. I logged time at the A, AA, and AAA levels as well and Major League Spring Training. In both the 2014 and 2016 seasons I was elected as a AA Eastern League All Star. In 2015, I was awarded the Player of the Year Award for the Toledo Mud Hens (AAA). I was a 7th round draft pick by the Detroit Tigers out of Cal State Fullerton (2010). During my time at Cal State Fullerton I was part of two College World Series teams, a three time Big West Champion, and a First Team All Big West Selection. As a high school player at Adolfo Camarillo High School I was awarded Second Team All State, First First Team All CIF, and Ventura County Player of the Year.

In working with young baseball players I believe first in keeping them athletic. Every movement in baseball stems from an athletic position. I want to first see what a player does instinctively, and then make slight adjustments from there. I do not believe in over complicating things or knit picking at what a player does wrong. Confidence is just as important as hard work and I want a player to feel like they got better after each session with me. Depending on the focus, I spend several minutes asking the player questions like: “why”, “what did you feel right there?”, “what did you do right/wrong to get that result?” I believe the best way for players to learn is to understand what they are doing.
