More About Coach Colton
I am currently a Point Guard College instructor, teaching male and female athletes ranging from ages 12 to 22 the subtleties of the game of basketball that the average player never takes the time to learn. I have also helped coach middle school summer league teams and been a team member on several middle school to high school aged camps with Red Mountain Basketball.
I graduated from Covenant College, NCAA Division 3 school in North Georgia, where I was a four year starter. I finished my career with over 1,000 points and over 500 rebounds. I will be playing professionally overseas in the upcoming season. USA South All-Conference third team (2013-14)
GABCA All-State second team (2013-14)
USA South Player of the Week (Dec. 9, 2013; Dec 16, 2013)
NCCAA Mid-East All-Region second team (2012-13)
GABCA All-State second team (2012-13)
GSAC All-Freshman team (2011-12)
While it will vary depending on the age and skill level of each player as well as his or her goals and aspirations, I have a well thought out practice plan to maximize improvement during each session. I will always start with a dynamic warmup, followed with ball handling to get the players hands loose and ready for shooting work. Then I will go through a variety of shooting drills depending on skill level. The number one thing I require at my training sessions is that each athlete bring a pen and notebook to the session. I want each player to learn how to chart their shooting progress as I believe that the number one competition for a player is simply you yesterday. My goal is for each player to simply get better each session. I will help fill the notebook with what I call golden nuggets, which are little tips or quotes designed to get you 1-2% better. As a player you should always be searching out the golden nuggets.
